I'd look at consumer Reports if they have any reviews and reliability information. All compressors make noise, It's just how much you can live with. Quieter means (usually) more expensive.

Have 8550510 Kenmore Refrig that stopped running.

Sounds like the thermostat is bad . Without the complete model number , including the first 3 numbers , such as 110. , 106. , 253. etc , I can't tell you how to access it . If you can get access on your own , jump the 2 wires connected to the thermostat , and see if the compressor cuts on . If so , replace the thermostat .

Kenmore refrigerator has loud high-pitched noise problem

I would suggest calling sears repair ( this refrig is still under warrenty ) and have them come out to check . If they say it's normal , tell them you want the refrig replaced . You do have rights with a new product not working to your standards .

Refrigator not cooling but freezer is.

Need to unplug and lets find the problem. The compressor cannot take much of the overheating. Find your model number like 213.256489 for example and let me know, I would like to see what condition the start relay and capacitor are in. And check the compressor windings. Let me know Sea Breeze

Kenmore top freezer, Refrierator shuts off with loud clunk.

It sounds like you may have a compressor that is working hard against high pressure due to a dirty condenser or a condenser fan not running or blocked. If all is well otherwise, the mounting springs inside the compressor may have broken or are weak. The only fix then is a new compressor.

Refrig/Freezer not cooling

"compressor not functioning". You Probably need a New Compressor. I have a Family Member whos Refrig/Freezer Compressor had to be replaced under Warranty when it was only 2 years Old.

Whirlpool top freezer refrigerator- compressor makes a loud noise

The compressor is that black casing you see at the bottom of your refrigerator - inside this sealed case is the motor assembly which stits on 3 or 4 springs that act like a cushion - you have a little gap at the bottom where the lubricating oil is present. Your springs have likely worn out and when the compressor shuts off the assembly is banging against the rigid casing make that loud "klonk" or bang noise. It IS normal for compressor to make some faint "tick-tick-tick...tick.....tick" when shutting off, but loud banging, bell sounds, etc, means the assembly is banging on the case from the inside - you can indeed live with the noise, your compressor will function normally, probably for months, or even years - it can also keep wearing out and one day the noise might get very loud (like a very high humming noise) - There is NOTHING that can be fixed, you either pay $400+ to change the compressor or buy a new refrigerator - If you DO replace a compressor usually the replacement will be noisier - Keep a thermostat inside your refrigerator at all time to make sure your compressor is still keeping your refrigerator and freezer cool.

Refrig shut off and will not restart - light bulbs still working

this refrigerator sounds like a 'frost free' type, and as such can, usually, only be repaired by the manufacturer. local refrigeration engineers cannot get the parts. your fault sounds like a PCB (printed circuit board) has gone, which only the manufacturers have in stock.

Kenmore Elite refrigerator stops cooling - Relay keeps cycling

the relay on the compressor is most likely the culprit part# 8201786 you can buy it at the local sears parts and repair center it is very easy to replace it. your refrig compartment will start warming up soon. to prevent damage to your compressor probably a good idea to unplug the refrig until you get the part replaced..

Kenmore Refrigerator making loud noise

Does the sound occur when the compressor is starting or shutting down? and only lasts for a couple of seconds? I had one do the exact same thing. Sometimes it would also wake me up at night. If so, I'm afraid he is right. On the bright side, it worked fine for years. I gave it to a girlfriend when I purchased a bigger one and it is still working today. The only thing you can do is change the compressor, which is probably not $$ practical.
