Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Sony STR-DG710 I installed this unit, and everything seems to be fine, but I found that when I switch to Video 1 (VCR inputs) I get the audio, but no video, I moved the video cable to a monitor to confirm signal, and it was fine, I then removed the inputs and placed them on video 3, same problem, sound but no video. I then took another AV source and hooked it to Video 1, same problem, then tried Video 3, same problem. It seems like the unit is not accepting video inputs on these two. I have the HDMI output going to a projector. Shouldn't whatever I send through video 1 (or 3), go though the HDMI output to the tunner?

This is a receiver, not a TV

Just got off the phone with Sony Support, I found that this receiver does not have an up converter, so any components that use the A/V inputs will not go through the HDMI outputs, you have to use the Monitor out plug to go to your TV, of course this means you will need to select that input when you are watching TV in order to see what is playing. Might have been nice to have written that somewhere in the Sony Manual.

Try to reset the tv throught the menu options, if that fails then the video inputs or video components in the tv needs repaired, if you have a "S Video" input you could use that or have the TV repaired.

Sony STR-DG710 center speaker makes no sound. Connections are good.

Sometimes these units have the ability to switch the speaker off and on. Look up the speaker settings in the manual.
As each channel in the unit will be separately driven the power amp for the center channel could have failed, but I think it's unlikely unless you have had problems with the sound on it before, or connected it wrongly causing a fault.

Trying to hook my Wii up using the AV audio Jacks

Connect the Wii to your television. Then connect the variable audio output from the TV to the audio in on the monitor section of the receiver. Then use the TV/SAT input selection on the receiver and dolby prologic 2 as your sound mode.

How do I get video input from one source and audio from another?

I am confused and might be overlooking something obvious here. SO PLEASE do not think I am being disrespectful! IF you have everything connected properly, then your television is a separate device, independent of your Sony STR. You should be able to watch the picture with the Sony STR turned OFF. In turn, you should be able to LISTEN to the Sony STR with the television turned off. Although it isn't a lot of fun, it might be best to DISCONNECT all the cables (not your speaker wire) and go through the process of reconnecting everything.
