My Garmin Nuvi 780 will not stay charged. also i am unable to charge it while I drive.

The Nuvi 780 is an older GPS. Most likely, the battery needs to be replaced due to age. Many lithium-Ion batteries are only good for 2 years. More information can be found here:

http://www.sharc.net/gps_battery_repair.htm

Please have the battery replaced by a professional. We have repaired many units from failed battery replacements by customers. Often other things get broken in the process, sometimes beyond repair.

Map freezes during drive

Hi David,

Gather your GPS and the USB cable that fits it. Try performing a "master reset"as described on Garmin page. Make sure you back up any info you need, first. Next, go to Garmin's Web Updater page. Download and install any updates as per instructions on the page.

If, the version of the firmware is already up to date, you may consider "rolling back" the firmware to a previous version. It is possible that the new firmware is the cause of the problem - it has happened to others including me on my 760. You can not obtain the older firmware from Garmin - but you can get them here - free of charge. Make SURE you get firmware for the nuvi 750 (if that is indeed your model)! Attempting to install another model firmware could render the unit unusable. Start with the version number immediately prior to the installed version number and see if the freeze ups stop. Go back as far as you want - but realize some functionality of the unit may go away, or a different issue may be introduced.

If all else fails, you can arrange for "repair" with Garmin Tech Support. They simply send you a refurbished unit with the latest maps and a 90 day warranty. You do NOT get your unit back - so back up and remove any personal info before sending it out.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Nuvi 660 freezes at loading maps. I have tried all the solutions provided to no avail including the reboot, reset, etc any other ideas?

I have one, it may be the processor inside of your unit. Have you contacted garmin yet about sending it in for repairs? Im sure by now you know their website is www.garmin.com also up on the right hand corner of the page is the tab My garmin click that and ask about sending it in to them. All there parts are proprietary so they control them. Its all you can really do at this point.

I hope this helps you out if it does leave me some feedback.

Wont boot up I first just got the garmin page twice then it shut down then nothing weather connected to power source or not

Sounds like you may have a defective USB connection, try by using an AC charger to charege your Garmin PND unit over night, if it still does not work than you would probably have to send it back to Garmin or Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc in San Jose CA for diagnoses and or repair.
Try connecting your unit first to your computer and see if you can update the unit and if you computer sees your Garmin PND, if it does not, than you are out of luck and may consider replacing your unit or sending it in for repair.

Good Luck

Hi Sara,

Can you tell me the serial number on the unit? Its located on the bottom on the decal?

It sounds like it a defective LCD display.

Does nothing

The battery CAN be replaced, however it is not an easy swap battery pack.
The battery in all garmin units is soldered directly to the PCB.
Garmin does not have authorized repair centers, and they have a flat-rate repair if your unit is no longer under warranty.

CLICK HERE to see more information about sending it back.
Your unit is listed as a $89 flat rate repair.

Batteries will not charge

Your not the Lone Ranger on this problem. After awhile the battery will no longer take a charge. IT is not a replaceable battery by the user. It must be sent back to Garmin for a new battery. If you only use the gps when in a vehicle, it still will work fine when pluged into a 12v source.
