I first got the Elgato Video Capture device for my Mac, I was hard-pressed to find any info on the initial problem I was having of trying to see what I was recording while playing my NES. All of the posts on forums were from years ago, and none of them helped me out at all.
Hopefully I can help out someone who has the same problem, and maybe make their life a little easier while trying to capture their NES footage.
I can't give a solution. I am having the same problem. Used the capture device a few months ago and it seemed to work. Now I can't get the computer to recognize the USB device and I get the same message. Anyone out there that can help?

donwload amcap on amcap click options video capture filter video image tick the boxes ext audio and usb audio then go back to video capture filter on video decoder change the video to ntsc _433 then you will have audio and black n white picture then change ntsc_433 to secam_B than load pinnacle then capture/import
I had the same problem and found that if I went into the options and chnged the format from NTSC to PAL and then back to NTSC it would bring in my camera. Thanks to snrobby for the hint on the options idea.
