Sounds like its getting too much gas as well There should not be gas running out the spark plug. Your choke or even your carb float may not be working causing it to have no power to pull when you put it in gear.

Engine snug to turn. not froze up completely. Overfull oil level.

Drain the gas, then drain the oil. Now refill the oil to the correct amount/height. Remove the spark plug and rinse/clean it in some gas. If there is any build up, scrape it out and make sure the gap is correct. Spin the engine a couple of times to actuate everything. If you see any oil at the spark plug hole, spray a small amount of gas through the spark plug hole and spin the engine to distribute the gas. Reinstall the spark plug and put some gas in the tank. Remove the air cleaner, place your hand over the carb throat and spin the engine a couple of times. You will partially flood the engine, but this will thin any oil left in the cylinder and intake/exhaust ports. Replace the air cleaner and try to start the engine as you normally would. You should have compression by now and the engine should be trying to run. If it feels like it is still flooded, remove the spark plug again and spin the engine a couple of times with the throttle in the off position. Reinstall the spark plug after a few minutes and try to start the engine normally. It should run. It will probably be a bit rough and smoke, but this should pass once the oil burns away. If the engine still runs rough after the smoke clears, clean the spark plug again as it may be fouled.

How do you start a 19th mtd riding mower

Put your left foot on the clutch pedal and push down all the way on the clutch. Move the throttle lever all the way to the top, this turns on the choke. Turn the key clockwise, to the right, to start the engine. Once the engine has started, move the throttle lever down to turn off the choke. You only need the choke when the engine is cold. If you use the choke while the engine is hot, you can flood the engine (too much gas) and this will fowl the spark plug. If you have flooded the engine, turn off the choke by lowering the throttle lever and try to start the engine a few times. If the engine doesn't start, then you may need to wait 20 to 30 minutes before trying to start the engine again. If the engine still does not start, then you can remove the spark plug to dry and to clean the spark plug. With the spark plug out, turn the key to the start position for 10 seconds, to push out excess fuel and fumes. Replace the spark plug and try starting the engine without turning on the choke.

I have a John Deere Z225 zero turn engine cranks but will not fire spark plug wet with fuel

as plug wet, either flooded, or not sparking, remove plug connect top lead and touch plug to metal, see if it sparks when turned over, if it does, with a good spark, flooding, check choke, if weak spark, check adjustment of points.

My riding mower crank but dont start !

There are a few things to check. First remove the spark plug. Is it wet or dry? If it is wet with gasoline then it is flooding out and the problem is in the carburetor, stuck float. If it is dry, ground it to the engine and turn over the engine to see if you have good spark, you should see blue spark and hear it. If you have a dry spark plug and you have spark, then you can reinstall the plug. Then place your hand on top of the engine to turn by hand, it should get hard to turn on the compression stroke. If you have compression, remove the air cleaner, is it really dirty? If so, replace it. Before you go buy a new one, try starting it without the filter cover installed. If not starting then you are going to have to clean and/or overhaul the carburetor. Before removing the carburetor, loosen the bowl nut and see if a good bit of fuel drains out. If no, the float and needle are stuck shut prevent fuel from getting in carburetor. If fuel, the jets are clogged.

I hope this gets you riding.

My toro mower will not start now after it has sat all winter

Make sure you have spark..pull plugs and roll over and look for blue spark, next smell for gas or see if plugs are wet....if they are wet its flooded with old gas which is not very combustable, remove air cleaner and put spark plugs in and spray some carb cleaner in the throat of carb and see if it fires, now if that works then you may have to check the needle and seat and the solenoid on bottum of carb if either one of these are stuck you will not get gas to the carb to run, hope this does it for you! don't forget to reply !

The engine cranks fine, but it will not turn over

Pull the spark plug and test it for spark or replace the plug and see if it will start. You need three things to occur for any engine to run; Spark,Fuel and air. It seems the air factor is ok, not sure of the fuel factor based on the info provided and spark needs to be verified.

I started the car for 15 second and then shut it off. when tried the following morning it engine would crank but would not start

if u start an rx8 without letting the engine heat up fully before switching it off then it floods the engine with fuel, a rotary engine problem, ring the dealer and they will be able to sort you out, is costly though... ALWAYS LET THE ENGINE FULLY WARM UP! before switching off!!

also rev the engine to 4000rpm and turn the key with foot still on the throttle when turning the engine off, to prevent flooding
