SOURCE: 98 Sportster 883. starts & w/ choke, won't

No, nothing else to check. You need to completely disassemble the carb and clean it out. When gasoline left in the float bowl evaporated, it left behind the gummy additives that the refinery puts in the gasoline. This mess has clogged the jets and small passageways in the carb. The reason it runs with the "choke" out is that it is not a real "choke" but rather an "enricher circuit". It has it's own air passageway and fuel metering "jet" in the float bowl.

Good Luck

Engine stuck wide open , full throttle

It is possible your linkage arm fell off or there's junk blocking that arm from releasing - you'll need to remove the top cover and inspect the linkage arm for blockage or a missing cotter or compression pin. Remove said cover and look for the trigger linkage arm off the trigger assembly. follow to the carb, watching for blockage or missing pin(s). The natural vacuum of the carb should pull the accelerator to idle, unless the configuration ( linkage) is bent or blocked. With some saws, you may need to remove more then just the top cover, and some require the removal of the safety brake bar, which can be difficult as they usually have a hidden spring that like to fly away, taking other crucial small parts with it ( I have a saw that is now brakeless because of that mean little spring!). Depending on your level of mechanical aptitude, you may want to consider taking it to a reputable shop.
Hope this helps!!

How to clean a 308054001 Homelite mighty mite carburetor

Empty gas tank, and remove spark plug wire from spark plug.
Remove plastic shroud around carb. Remove fuel lines from carb. Be sure to note which one goes where (this is important)
I take pics before i dissassemble anything for reff. later if needed.
Remove carb from engine, dont loose gasket between carb and engine. With carb in hand and a clean work bench remove the screws on the one side of carb. **Be careful, One side will have a small pin and spring/ needle, You will need to remove the tiny screw holding that assembly in, you dont want to loose them, also again note they way they are assembled, then gently lift up on the pin/arm and remove them, put them aside. The other side of the carb will might require you removing the fuel bulb if it is attached to the carb body, go ahead and remove this. If the fuel bulb is not located on the carb, undo the 4 screws and remove the cover being gentle, **Do not pry or pull the rubber gasket away from the cover, you'll damage it, also you will see what appears to be a plastic sheet, leave that also. Put this aside for now.
You now have the carb open, and easiest thing to do is get a can of "carb cleaner" and use the little red tube that comes with the cleaner to go in and out of all the holes in the carb as you spray. ***BE Careful, some of those holes will point back at you, and you could get it in the face...Hmm maybe wear eye protection incase.
You will also see in one of the larger holes a screen mesh "filter" dont pull it out, you'll only damage it and allow dirt into your system after. (unless you have a full rebuilt kit with a new one in it). Spray carb cleaner into air intake also. once you are satisfied with the carb body, go back and gently clean the Needle/spring/pin assembly and then return them to the carb, and tighten with the tiny screw. Gently wipe the gasket/cover with carb cleaner, and then wipe it off. Reassemble cover.
do the same for otherside of carb, be gentle on the "plastic" reed switches attached to thegasket/cover on this side, I would only gently wipe them and then replace the cover. Re-assemble everyting. Congratulations you just did a carb job. **Note any gaskets/diapraghms/reed switches that are torn or missing will need to be replaced with a proper rebuild kit.

open up the ignition cover plate and check the backing plate. it may have come loose and threw the bike out of time.
make sure your plug wires are plugged on tight and the coil wires are secure.
It is most definitely a timing problem.

Vaccum line routing on the carburetors of a 1985 yamaha xj700

There's only two , on the Ca. model , sitting on the bike second cylinder from left, the synching port goes to the petcock -on the carb joint nearest the block- It would be the only boot without a black cap n a spring clamp .And (it'll be a long hose) goes to the emissions can behind the air box on the right from the carb itself.(it has a plastic cover over it) Anything behind the carbs (between 1n2 then 3n4 ) is over flow tubes to the bottom of the frame.

Just had same problem. Take carbs off and clean all jets and bowl. Be carful front and rear carb have different sized jets. When you put quad back together put entire airbox together even the cover. This quad will backfire unless air box is complete. I bet you anything your carb is full of trash.
