Look for blocked non-return valve from compressor line to tank
check that each poppet valve for each cylinder is operational as the small springs break and do not allow the air to pump up

Oil capacity of kobalt 80 gal air compressor

You could do a little searching on the web, and answer your own question. You can buy a manual for $4.95 at:
http://www.needanownersmanual.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_30&products_id=549&osCsid=tks6fj36b6skq8h7m155hh8kb1
But worse, you don't even need an answer to this question. Simply add oil until level is about half-way up the sight glass. And don't overfill. How simple is that?

Craftsman 1 HP 4 Gal air compressor runs and sounds like the air pump is working but no pressure is building up

Cold weather will freeze the water the compressor normally makes and this can prevent the switch diaphragm from releasing.... also drain the tank

On my kobalt digital air compressor i have 150

This was a poor design for kobalt with digital readouts.. The compressor waqs made by several comanies including campbell hausfield and porter cable, But some were imported.

There under the controls is a switch that cuts out the motor, It looks like an oil pressure switch on older cars. There is also a manifold tree that holds the guages and the regulator. There will also be a circuit board that holds the electronics for the regulator control.

Remember you have to set a value to bring up the pressure and the board senses the tank pressure and "Bleeds" off via a solenoid to hold the pressure. The ticking sound you hear is the solenoid, ITs not repair/replacable.. its part of the controls.

If the unit is under warranty you might eant to ask lowes who is their off site repair center, or ask is it available to be exchanged.

Personally, and professionally.. this model is oiless, so it has a shorter life as to being reliable compared to oil lubrication. For the extra bucks you will come out with a more reliable and easier to service model.

Air Compressor

Dewalt recommends synthetic oil in their compressors. The dewlat part # 5130427-00 quart, and 5130702-00 for a 4oz size. Available at www.dewalt.com or their service center. I have been using the Lowes brand of synthetic compressor oil. Kobalt oil sells for about $7 and works great. If you do not use your compressor all day like I do, you can use the standard grade of Kobalt compressor oil that sells for around $3. Synthetic oil is for extreme conditions. Good Luck!
