Does it look like it was glued to the inside of the drum??? They use to sell fabric softener packets shaped like that that self stick to the inside of the drum. They were suppose to last for several months. The problem was if you removed the old one and didn't replace with the same item it left a sticky patch inside the drum. Not sure if they still sell those or not.

Dryer slow to start. push button several times to get started. pulls heavily on electricity and causes 120 surge protectors to pop. any ideas?

There are a number of reasons this could be happening. Is there any unusual noise coming from the machine during operation? Does the drum turn somewhat freely by hand? It is possible that something has gotten caught between the belt and the drum, I have seen many things from an errant sock, to seed corn (from pockets) to a dead mouse in dryers.

I'm a little confused about the 120V surge protectors used for this 240V machine. Is this a new setup for you?

Dryer spins but makesclunking sound when clothes in it

The bushing in the back of the dryer is probley bad. to check and see take the top loose and look on the back of the dryer and see if the bushing is loose or out. to replace it you have to pull the drum. there also could be some screws on the back of the dryer holding it on.

Dryer won't start.. has power sounds like something binding. long buzzing sound when starter depressed. try once or twice and then nothing for a while. come back try again ..long buzzing sound again

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

You did not include a make and model number for your dryer so... this is a GENERIC response. With a make and model number we can better help you.

The long buzzing your hearing is the motor winding trying to start the motor. After 30 - 45 seconds if the motor does not start the thermal overload will cycle and prevent further attempts for around 5 - 6 minutes until the motor winding cools down.

Causes of a dryer motor not starting:
1. Binding.
a. Broken dryer fan blade lodged inside the blower housing
b. Motor start switch failure
c. Motor bearing failure

2. Dryer drum bearing / roller problems
a. The drum can be bound up and dragging on internal components of the dryer
b. The Idler pulley bearing may have failed and it is now a brake.
c. Front or rear drum seals failed / pinched against rear or front of the chassis
d. Drum roller bearing failure and is now a brake.

Reach inside the drum and see if you can turn the drum. If you can not turn it with a little effort, you need to find out where the binding is inside your dryer.

This is the best I can do for the moment without a model number. With a Make and Model number I can provide parts listings and item numbers of where to check.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.
Kelly

Dryer started out squeeling and now is making loud sounds?

Grinding and squealing noises with this model (if the model number is correct) are usually attributed to the drum support rollers and/or idler pulley needing lubricated. Use a light weight turbine oil on the shaft area only. DO NOT lubricate the rubber portion of the rollers.

If the front drum glide support is worn or has something caught in it, the dryer may also exhibit noisy operation. The same is true of the rear drum seal is worn. You shouldn't have to replace an ENTIRE dryer for noise.

All these parts COMBINED cost less than $80. There all available at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in you complete model number in the "Search by Model Number" window and the parts can be found under the following headers:

"Cabinet Parts"
Item 53 - Idler and Pulley Assy. (part #691366)

"Bulkhead Parts"
Item 44 - Roller Support (part #349241T)
Item 62 - Ring Bearing (part #279441)
Item 66 - Rear Seal (part #279857)

The website has helpful illustrations to assist on part location and assembly. The site also has handy Do-It-Yourself manuals by calling 1-800-252-1698 (if needed).

To access all the components, you need to lift the top and remove the front of the dryer. On some dryers this is accomplished by pulling the top panel towards you then lifting up. On others, you will need to lift the console by placing a putty knife under each front corner and pushing in while lifting up. Once the console is lifted, there are three screws to remove and teh top panel will slide forward then up. CAUTION: UNPLUG the dryer PRIOR to servicing. Pay particular attention to how the dryer belt is installed so you can re-install later. If you forget, repairclinic.com has dryer belt diagrams for most major brands under their "Repair Help" section.

NOTE: If you disassemble the dryer to this point, take the time to inspect the dryer belt. This may be a good time to replace it.

I hope this information answers some of your questions.

Black marks on clothing at completion of drying cycle

Is the residue coming from the back or front of the drum? Most dryers are equipped with 2 drum roller supports in the rear under the drum. You may have a drum roller that is going bad and some of the rubber residue is getting past the drum seal. Some dryers are quipped with an additional pair of drum rollers under the front of the drum as well. I would check all the drum rollers to see if they are all in good shape. A definite symptom of a bad drum roller is finding black residue along the outside of the drum where the rollers ride. You will have to open the dryer cabinet to see the outside of the drum. Also, check the rear drum seal to make sure it is not crimped or folded inwards in the drum. The felt seal in the back should should ride evenly all the way around the drum and should not be that visible inside the drum itself. That is, you may see some of the seal, but you shouldn't see part of it folded inside the drum or bits of it tattered or torn. I hope this makes sense to you. Let me know if this helps.
