Question about Honda 2008 Ridgeline RTL

1 Answer

My blower motor stopped working on my 2008 Honda Ridgeline.

I smelled a faint burning smell from the vent. I shut the truck off and since then, the blower fan doesn't come on. I have ground at the blower so the resistor is working, however, I do not have power and the fuse (21) is good.

The motor turns when I connect straight to the battery. I have a ground at the motor but no power is found there. The fuse (21) is good. Could it be the relay?

If you have one, this would be a possibility. Can you trace to see if you have power to the switch? And is so going out of the switch? I think the power to the fuse is before the switch. Is there power to the fuse? It could be the switch.

Fixed. I traced the power wire behind the console and found the wiring harness had power on one side but not the other. This is a common issue on Honda Ridgelines. The wire was burned on one side of the connection that had power but not the other. I bypassed the harness/connection and it now works.

Burning smell

Sounds like there is an electrical problem. Its probably in the ac / heat system. I would suspect the blower motor resistor or blower motor is going bad.

I think you should replace the blower motor and (maybe) the blower motor regulator too.

Chevy Aveo strange smell and smoke coming through the vent with air conditioning on. Checked engine-OK. Turned up air conditioning full blast...after 30 seconds...little more smell and smoke it stopped...

If the blower motor is still working, that was not the problem-the strange smell might have been from some bacteria in the plenium, and the smoke may have just been the result of condensation from the evaporator in the plenium-keep an eye on it, but if the blower is working, I would not be overly concerned about it.

When I turn the heater on burnt plastic smell from vents

It could be your heater blower motor or the blower speed regulating reisitor.
Try different blower speeds, see if the smell goes away. Also if one or more speed setting don't work, it is more than likely it is the resistor, if no to the tests, it is more likely to be the blower motor.
Also check to see if the blower intake is blocked.

Heater not working

The problem is probably the blower motor resistor. I'm not sure where yours is located exactly. They can be on the firewall under the hood or some are near the blower motor under the dash.
