How to I get to 3/4" tile floor height using Ditra and 5/16" thick tile?

My tile is 5/16" thick. The ditra is 2/16" thick. Usually there is about 1/6" of thinset under the Ditra. Can I go heavier under the Ditra to recuce the thickness of the thinset between the Ditra a nd tile?

SOURCE: Tile over a cracked cement floor

You can get a crack membrane to put over the cracks. First use a primer on the floor, this is a primer just for this application, then put membrane on top of primer. these products can be found at home depot or lowes or any tile store. Also do not use cheep thinset. the better thinset is more flexible and will absorb any movement. The cement board would not work as they will move or flex and cause the grout to crack and tile to loosen

SOURCE: how do i remove old thinset?

The best way to go in that size area is to rent a Hilti or comparable demo hammer and use a 3-inch wide bit. Make sure they give you a new, sharp bit. Adjust the angle you hold the chisel to the floor to where you get the most thinset off on each pass but don't damage the base floor. This will depend on how well the thinset has adheared to the floor.

Instruction not clear asto wether an underlay is needed or advisable on top plywood I am replacing laminate floor with these click fit tiles

An underlayment is usually used to either; raise a floor to a certain height or to give a resilient floor a smooth surface that won't mirror what I is under it. That being said. ... check that the floors transition well. ... height wise. Determine if existing floor is sound, ie no squeaks and is strong enough to not flex under foot then proceed with your floor

Can plywood be glued to tile floor before laying vinyl planks ??

There are cement based compounds on the market that will allow you to just go over top of your tile floor. Make sure your tile floor is not loose anywhere, clean the floor well and use a patching compound over the existing tiles (this will fill in the grout lines and any uneven areas of the tile). It may take a couple of coats, maybe even 3 to get the floor smooth and level. You should be able to install your vinyl right on top of this and not have the added height of the plywood. If you insist on the plywood you could use a good quality construction adhesive with drilling and installing screws.

Which flooring is best for commercial space like gym or sports field. Is there any provider in Kansas city?

Having been in the flooring installation end of the business for over 20 years have you considered rubber mat flooring. It is about an inch thick and has interlocking tabs. Maybe I can find a hyper link.

Additionally on the market is a vinyl carpet tile...carpet on top....vinyl on the bottom...with a thin dense done inbetween
This is a very popular choice due to the ease of installation...using a peel and stick glue. It allows you to adhere the carpet tile to the floor and if future stains or issues arise you can take the carpet tile up and replace it. Very comfortable under foot....used on many commercial applications and now available at retail outlets like LOWES and home depot

Search the web for carpet tile...and releaseable adhesive for carpet tile.

You can compare prices vs wood, but I would not choose a wood floor personally.

Is vinyl floor tile strong enough for wheelchair...I am always in the kitchen, cooking

No- It may work for awhile but the wheels on the chair will cut into the tile. If the wheels are thick- over 2 inches thick and are tire type it would help. Try it out - if you see ridges on the tile- Stop- the tile is too soft.

Can ceramic tile be installed over old ceramic tile?

You can install tile over tile. However here are the risks. The new tiles will require at least 3/16" of tile adhesive UNDER the tiles when put in place after they have been pressed into position. Additionally the trim around the tiles willhave to be removed and elevated the distance of the tile thickness and the 3/16" grout distance. The tiles if on the second floor of a home will easily losen due to the expansion and contraction of the home and the difference in the 2 types of tiles expansion and contraction rates.

It is not difficult to remove old tiles. You use a flat bar type scraping tool and the old tiles usually will pop right up off the floor. You will have to break maybe 2 tiles to get started but after that they are easy to remove.

My experience in my own fully tiled in all rooms 2900 sq ft home in the tropics is that I have to remove the old tiles as over time the new tiles losen on top of the old tiles. I have tried it several times and have had at least 1 tile come loose each time.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

With a newly tiled floor, my counter depth GE Profile model TPX24BRYA (14 yrs old) now is about 1/32 in. too tall to fit into the cabinet. Can I, and if so, how do I adjust the height?

you need to take off the feet/adjusters from underneath and fit thick felt pads so that you dont get vibrations through floor, and so that when you slide the unit back in it wont scratch the tiles......i put mine on a piece of upsidedown vinyl flooring mat....easier to slide in/out..

Tiled bathroom floor. Went to install toilet

hi, the tile is supposed to go under the toilet flange (the thing you put the wax ring on), very common "oops", can be rectified by placing another wax ring right on top of the first on. best to make the first one a "horn type" wax ring, then put the plain one (no horn) on top of first and try to smoosh it on just enough to stay in place so when you install toilet it doesn't move,.....cheers!

Door rubs on new tile floor. How do I fix this.

The best way to solve this is to remove the door and re-install it at the desired height. Last resort - cut jambs off, raise the threshold. cut the top off the door, reblock it and move it up in the jamb. Yes, I have done this before, when there was no room to raise the door. I managed a door shop and we cut and reblocked many steel doors at the top. I like to use construction adhesive to hold the block.
