Steam generation minimum morphy richards

If tap water is used in a hard water area limescale can soon build up and reduce water flow into the steam generator.
A propriety descaler might help but if the situation is too advanced it is unlikely.

The iron has been all descaled, however we cannot get any steam when pressing the button. It is a Tefal express generator model 3 years old.

Once you have descaled the boiler and refilled your frontpiece of the iron itself (hopefully with distilled water - any supermarket) you press the "reset"/ "restart" button on the back end of the steam generating unit. When the water is hot enough press steam button & turbo button a few times - WARNING: make sure iron is facing downwards and cover ironing board with old rag because initially brown steam splatter will come out on first few steam releases.

How does the descaler unit open on model 18465

The user manual is here with detailed instructions

Changing the descale cartridge sounds like a right pain though. Good luck!

What can be done about leaking steam?

ensure your iron steam button is not set into perminent steam function. leaving the iron with the point of the iron pointing upwards should reduce steam to the handle. also the iron may need to be descaled to ensure any steam switch funtion is not stuck in an on position.

HOW DO I DESCALE A STEAM GENERATOR IRON

Place the iron soleplate, unplugged of course, in a shallow dish of water and descaler and leave it for a while. I have just done this with mine and its working a treat.

The rumbling noise is the steam generator working - make sure the water reservoir is full and press the on button. Inside the machine will be doing its stuff and generating steam - this is the noise that you are hearing and when you press the release switch (normally under the handle of the iron) then the steam will be expelled. The noiose comes on and off as it is making more steam - this is normal. I use ordinary tap water but don't have hard water so have no problems - also make sure you empty out the base occassionally - should be a large pressure screw behind the cable holder - make sure iron is off and cold before doing this and then shake it out and residue bits will come out - then flush out with water. These are brilliant to use and you will wonder how you managed before having this - Happy ironing.

Irons are generally not worth repairing. That said, try to clean out any mineral deposits with a mixture of 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water. Put in the usual amount. Warm the iron, try to get steam. Empty the iron and do it twice more. Then, rinse it out with plain water.

You may get lucky!
