Always try to include any model numbers, brand names or something to help us out here... Some do not have oil, the are chain driven and have grease in them... Others have a gear box and they might have a dipstick screwed into the top of the shift plate or housing...

The rear end gear box usually has fill plug about 1/3 of
the way up the gear box housing. The gear oil is usually filled to the bottom
side of the plug. In other words, if you were to try to add gear oil, you would
stop when the oil starts to spill back out of the plug hole.
