Take the back off, you should be able to see the motor and belt. I recommend one of the several on line appliance parts sites. They are usually helpful in diagnostics and recommended parts and how to's.

What does an rL error mean?

The rl code is displayed when the control detects a load of clothes in the washer during the clean washer cycle.

This code should only come up when you're trying to run a clean cycle.

There can be two causes for this message if there are no clothes in the washer while you're running the clean washer cycle.

The most serious cause of the problem would be the spin bearing. Try and turn the basket by hand and see if you fill any restrictions. The basket can drab because of the bearing or because there are clothes between the spin basket and outer tub. Turn the basket by hand and see if you notice anything.

You can also try to remove the belt and run the clean cycle and see if the problem repeats. If the code doesn't repeat with the belt off and there is nothing between the tub and spin basket most likely the spin bearing will have to be replaced. The bearing is part of the rear half of the tub and will require a complete tear down to change.

If the message rl repeats with the belt off then the most likely cause of this problem is the machine control board.

My maytag dryer is making a clicking noise and the drum won't spin. I just changed the belt and still not working

That's an interesting one. Does the motor run but does not turn drum? If the motor is running but the drum is not turning then there is a possibility that the belt is not attached to the idler pulley correctly. Go HERE to see video on belt install. I have also ran into the screws that hold the tumblers in the tub loose and making noise. Check to make sure there are no screws sticking out of the tub. Clothes washer tub spins on wash

sounds like u have a problem with the "brain". The agitator and spin cycle should never run at the same time. therefore it leads me to A: brain issue B:problem in the actual transmission of what cycle should be running. You will continue to smell the burning rubber due to the issue being one of the two explained above. Does it ever NOT spin? If this is the case the likely hood is that it will be a solenoid.

Squeals during the washers spinning cycle

What model is it? The answer is probably both. Every machine I've worked on has a motor with a belt that drives a pulley that turns the tub held in place by bearings. Your squeal could certainly be caused by a bad belt. If the belt looks bad change it. If it looks okay, try a squirt of belt dressing, if the squeal disappears change the belt. If it is a front loader open the loading door, put one hand just inside the tub at the top (like a waiter carring a tray shoulder high with one hand) and LIGHTLY push upwards then drop your hand a little then push upwards etc., etc. If the whole tub moves solidly you are okay, but if you feel a wiggle or a slight space in the jump (man this is harder to explain than i thought it would be) then your bearings may need attention. I doubt it is your bearings causing the squeal though. Does it squeal through entire spin cycle, or just at the beginning?

THE SPIN DRYER IS MAKING NOISE BUT NOT SPINNING

Hi, if the tub is not spinning, you have either broken the belt, or the motor has burned out. If you are a handy person, you can pull off the back panel to get a look at the tub and the belt will be wrapped all the way around the tub and motor pulley. Turn it on if the belt isn't broken to see if the motor is trying to turn at the pulley. If the belt is broken that's the problem, but also make sure the motor runs because if it if froze up due to loss of bearings it will break the new belt if you decide you are going to try and replace it on your own. You will have to wrap it around the tub and run it over the belt tentioner and around the pulley. You can get a belt at a appliance parts house. Take the model, serial, numbers and brand name, and the old belt may have a part number on it. Keep me posted please.
I will check back in the morning.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

I have a 30 year old top load maytag that has a burn smell and did not complete cycle

Likely a burned belt. Tilt machine back and belts are underneath machine. Always replace them as a set. At right front is pump pulley. Turn it by hand to be sure it's not bound up.

Secondly run hand up the inner tub to the top until you find a finger wide space at the top of the tub between the tub and the upper tub cover. Stick your fingers as far into that space as possible and run them 360 degrees all the way around the top of the inner tub. This checks for clothing that may have gone over the top of the tub and gotten caught there. This occurrence and something caught in the pump can burn belts.

Lastly, if the first two tests don't reveal a problem, replace both belts and test the machine again with agitate and spin to see if belt is overheated again. If not, you have fixed problem. If so, you likely have a problem beyond your abilities and the value of the machine.

Good Luck

Washer does not spin . motor runs when door is shut but does not spin

If the motor is running and tub is not spinning, then you most likely will need to replace the belt. You can get the belt and manual from repairclinic.com
If belt is good, then tub bearings may be bad.

I am looking for instructions on how to change the V-belt (a.k.a. Multi rib belt - I think?) for a Maytag Dryer Model # MDG9520BWW. It is the belt that turns the tumbler.

there are 2 screws at the bottom in front of your machine. remove them.pull out on the bottom of the front .it should fall off,the support for the tub is there.screws on right and left must be removed .front support should come off.careful with the wires.the belt must be released from the idler pully .pay close attention how the belt runs on the pully before you remove it.hope this helps.also on most matag dryers `the smooth side of the belt goes to the tub.
