I recall some old fords had a filter screwed in at the carburetor inlet. But likely somewhere around the engine bay-they didn't start putting them under the vehicles in the fuel line till later. There would be a sock or screen inside the tank on the fuel pickup pipe, but never a filter in the tank, and the screen seldom got plugged, unless dirt or trash got into the tank.
It could be your pump, too. Is it a mechanical pump on the engine, or an electric pump in the fuel line somewhere? You can take the line off at the carburetor and check fuel volume and flow, use a can to catch it . If a mechanical pump, the engine has to be cranking over for the pump to push fluid through. Also at the carburetor, check that the needle valve is letting gas into the carburetor. This needle valve is controlled by the float in the carb bowl-when gas in the bowl drops, the float opens the needle valve off a tiny seat to let fuel into the carb. Sometimes they get blocked or clogged, or can get stuck closed. A new needle valve and seat are always found in carb rebuild kits, along with all new gaskets and other wear-prone or rubber parts. Check before deciding it is the carb, if gas is getting to the carb in sufficient flow. There are specifications for fuel flow-something like a quart in 20 or 30 seconds of cranking the engine for a mechanical pump-but you would have to look for the spec for it. Generally, I think a pint of gas in a few seconds would determine if the pump was working sufficiently.
Take the seat off of the bike ,then take the tank loose and gently lift up on the tank ,turn the pet cocktail valve to the off position turning off the gas flow then remove the gas line from the tank and remove the 2 small vent hoses from the tank and set the tank off on the ground.directly under the tank is your fuel pump the line going fro,m the pump to the throttle bodies has a clear capsule shaped filter in it pack a rag under it too catch the gas loosen the clamps and remove the lines from the filter and put the new filter in the same way you removed the old one and reassemble the bike hooking the vent hoses back to the tank and the fuel line turn the gas valve back to the on position and bolt the tank and seat back down and your filter is changed
could be the tranfer switch but I would look into the tank it self could have a sock on the inside that is clogged ..while on thetank that is giving u problem s take the fuel line of in the engine compartment an see if when you crank over the truck ...using a quart glass jar will work to catch the gas ma take more than one person see if you have a steay flow of gas or if it is sputtery hehe like that one anyway also if it has duel pumps that one could be causing the prob ...check the tank filter ..condition
You have two filters in the system. One is in the fuel inlet on the carburetor, the other is the "sock" inside the tank. If either is plugged, no fuel will flow. Also examine the fuel line. Unlike an injected system, a small hole in a line often won't leak a lot because the pump pulls fuel. A hole will allow air to be pulled in instead of squirting out fuel. First, remove the line from the carb and attach it to a hose and crank the engine. After cranking, you should have about a pint or fuel in the catch container. If not, check line and tank filter. If you have fuel, check carb filter. On Chevy engines there is a rod inside the engine that operates the pump. You did make sure that the rod was up and the pump arm is actually being activated by it?
Probably some kind of fuel supply problem. You may have an inline filter between the tank and the carburetor. That filter could be pugged.
Also if the mower has been sitting for a coating sometimes called 'varnish" can develop on the jets in the carburetor. If the mower is starting its getting fuel flow..... if it won't stay running its because the fuel supply stopped
Yes there is a filter in tank but cant be removed,dump gas out of tank and leave gas cap off place a rag over tank to catch any gas that you couldnt remove doesnt blow all over then take your air hose and blow through the gas line this will clean the filter after you do this place a can under gas line to catch gas and put a little gas in the tank to see if your problem is solved .
check for fuel pump hum by the gas tank with the key on, if no hum check fuses and relays (under the hood and dash) if they are good replace fuel pump. if you hear humming try replacing the fuel filter
you'll need to remove the tank and drain it and clean it. replace the fuel filter and unhook the fuel line from the injector... turn the key on and let the fuel pump run till all you are getting out of the hose is gas.
