Hi Qdiv,
If the power supply has burnt; it is better to replace it rather than repairing.
Good luck.

Testimonial: "Thanks. But Philips support is unwilling to help - where else could I get a spare board or if I am able to get the transformer I could replace on the board. If you could share info on any sources that you / others are aware of, would be very useful, please."

Which country are you from? Here in India we can get almost all kinds of transfarmers rewound. If you have someone doing in your area get the transfarmer rewound. Can you please post the picture of the power supply ?

I am in India, ~60km from Chennai. I plan to hunt around Ritchie street for a board or transformer; I do not know where to get it rewound. I am attaching a photo of the board, component side. The yellow block near centre is the one that I think smokes though no external damage is visible (yet).

    A service manual is available on the internet at This gives the circuit diagram but actual voltages are not known;

If you say smoke coming from or near the transfarmer, sure there will be some other components around it. Please check them thoroughly.

I accidentally plugged a speaker output into bridge and right output at the same time. All fuses are good. Did I smoke the transformer? If so where can I get one?

Probably not. The fuses would have blown if the transformer had been overloaded.

These amps do not have output transformers. The transformer you see inside are likely switching transformers to increase the supply voltage substantially. They are pretty rugged. There likely fuses on the circuit board that you don't recognize. If there are surface mount components on the board, look for white rectangular that are square when looking from the end. Usually they will have xxA marked on them, a 1 or 2 digit number followed by an A. There are other shaped fuses, but they should all have a similar marking. Usually, the left and right amplifiers will each have TWO fuses associated with thir power supply and sometimes an additional one for the speaker.

How do I test a High Voltage Transformer on my Vizio VU42L-FHDTV10A?

It could be the main board. The main board controls the standby light on the front of the set. Check and verify that your 5vdc standby voltage is working. Next, I would check the "on" or "ps on" input on the power supply board. When you turn the set on (either my side buttons or remote) the main board should send a 3.3vdc signal into the "on" terminal on the power supply. This "on" signal from the main board turns on the other half of the power supply thus turning on your set. If you are not getting this signal from the main board, I would suspect the main board. To test your power supply, you can simply put a jumper from 5vdc to the "on" terminal on the power supply. Your 12vdc, and 24vdc power supplies should then become active.

Fitnex t60 display says prg bad, what does that mean and how can i repair it

1) You must test first the power supply for +5DC for I.Circuit( Including EPROM, ROM, etc)
2) Test the flexible cable between KeyPanel and display board, and clean.
3) Chechk the connector between Display Board with the lower board(Main Controller Motor)for loose connection, loose wire.
4) Test the transformer controller supplying the 12VCA, to the power supply at the Main Controller Board since this supply the +5vd to the Display Board.
Finally you must have Strong Conclusion if the problem is 1)Display Board faulty, 2) Power supply Faulty, 3) Transformer Controller Faulty 4) Main Controller Board Faulty.

For All test you must use Dvoltmeter.

Smoke rolled out and then the unit shut itself down

By and large, electronic devices need the smoke to stay in for them to work. Once the smoke comes out, they generally don't work anymore.

Joking aside, the only parts that can generate enough heat to produce smoke will be the power supply transformer and capacitors. If you're lucky, the damage will be limited to the power supply, but there's a good chance that it went unregulated while it was failing and so dumped 120V into the main circuit board and cooked other components there.

If you are up for soldering, then open the unit up and post details of what components have visible damage, as well as detailed info about the circuit board revisions.
If you're not, then it's probably time to shop for a new receiver.

It does not start up and have already replaced the control board

Beffore the control board was replaced it was important to check that the power supply was correct. Hope the secondary/main transformer is working.if supply is not coming to the main board check the fuse and this sub transformer.
A check will indicate that the line is correct and the power comes to the board. If the board is not acitve then the front panel touch board could be faulty. Also check the main capacitor for the magnetron to function or the magnetron itself..
Hope you try this out.

check your power supply board, higher voltage than the normal voltage coming out to your power supply, replace the oscillator that control your regulator.

Unit won't power up completely

The clicks you hear are the relay that completes the circuit for 110V AC to the main power transformer. Mine had the same problem and here's how I've gotten it to work. A lightning strike near our house caused it to fail, and I traced it to the power transformer relay activation circuit. The tuner and amp were fine. I found a bad transistor in the relay circuit, but didn't have a replacement on hand, so I soldered a jumper wire across the relay switch connections on the power transformer circuit board. This connects the 110V AC directly to the power transformer. DC Power to the amp and tuner circuits will still be controlled by the power switch, but the transformer will be supplying all the AC voltages to the main board. If there is a real problem with the circuits that load the transformer or the transformer itself, then the fuse will blow. If the fuse doesn't blow then I suspect the problem is just in the power sequencing circuit itself, that is not needed for operation other than to make the unit "Energy Star Compliant". A lot of electronic items have a transformer that is not switched, and only fused, so that the supplies are available at all times.
