Question about KitchenAid KP2671 Professional 6 Series Stand Mixer
It will run, but not Past the 5th speed.
Sandy, It sounds like you have a problem with your speed control board, depending on which mixer you have you are either looking at replacing a speed control phase board or the speed control board.
If you can get the model & serial number off of the bottom of your KitchenAid mixer I can tell you exactly which piece to repair. Despite other information, I think the part is rather easy to repair, and pretty straight forward. I do have a service manual (depending on your model) that will walk you through how to repair your mixer.

That's not the sort of problem you are likely to solve at home. There is a speed control pcb and a speed sensor involved, it's not mechanical like the other old models. Best you contact Kitchen Aid and find out where your closest authorised service agent is.

Pull the back off and there will be two screws at the top of the Speed Control Plate and a 3rd screw at the bottom. Tighten the top two screws down. email@example.com. Let me know if it works.

Hi. If your mixer is still under warranty, call Kitchenaid, they are usually very good at replacing mixers under warranty.
If you're out of warranty, you'll need to order a new speed control board. Use the following link to download the parts catalog for your mixer.
You can remove and replace this board yourself. Use the drawings to assist you with the project.

The Kiichenaid mixer has a centrifugal speed governor. I suspect your is stuck. It will need to be disassembled, and inspected.

SOURCE: mixer doesn't work on all speeds
First the K45SS does not have a hall effect sensor. the pro series the epicurean seines and the pro series 5 use them, The K45ss system uses a phase control board a speed control plate and a governor for speed control. the governor rarely goes out the phase control board is a likely culprit but the system would work only in high gear if it was bad. I agree with the guest above in that it sounds like the retaining nuts on the adjusting screws of the speed control board have worked themselves loose and the adjustment screws themselves have vibrated out of proper position.
