SOURCE: Unable To Keep Pilot Light Lit!
I have a Williams top vent gravity wall furnace (model 5009622) and I had the same problem. I had to take the cover off the furnace -- screw on top and two at the bottom (open the access door and there is one screw on each side) to get to the reset button for the vent safety shutoff system. On my furnace it's on the left side toward the top of the unit. I pressed the little red reset button and it's been working ever since. If your furnace is properly installed and doesn't have bird's nest in the chimney, it should work fine. Good luck!

If you have not found the problem yeat, it IS the thermocoupling( or pilot generator(same thing))
You may test by placing a multimeter on the red and white leads coming to the gas valve. you do not need to disconnect the leads first but you can

sometime if the heater has been sitting for days spiders get into the burner area or the area between the tank and the burner and make a web blocking the flow. I have taken a compressed air in a can like the ones you use for computers laptops and blow air up the shaft and around the burner wait 2 minutes then try again. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 blowouts to work. Put the air compressor right in the little gas nozzle that comes out to light the pilot for the best results

SOURCE: pilot lite will not stay lite
You need to change the thermocouple on the unit.
First check to see if the flame is hitting the thermocouple when the flame is on when you hold down the button. If it is then remove the the thermocouple and replace with the same size. You should be able to pick one up at your local hardware store.
If when you replace the thermocouple the flame does not stay lit still you may have a bad gas valve.
Hope this helps and please rate this!

SOURCE: pilot light wont stay lit
You need to replace the pilot safety switch which is usually a Thermocouple. It is connected by a thin tube from the gas valve to a bulb near the pilot burner. It should be available at Home Depot or online.
