Ring end gaps for B&S 31P777 engine

If the engine the figures are required for is a re-ring using the original pistons it is important to check the amount of wear of the bore and of the piston groove clearance.

Once the ring gap is set to the minimum at an unworn part of the cylinder bore the gap should be rechecked at the most worn part and if the gap exceeds the maximum it indicates an excessively worn cylinder bore.
While this is not immediately detrimental it does mean the piston ring grooves will wear much more quickly and the job will have a shorter life and in some cases a high oil consumption can be worsened.

The piston ring groove clearance - side clearance between the ring and the piston should be 0.0015 inch maximum. It can be expected the top groove could be considerably worn and in that case new pistons would be beneficial or a Cord ring set.

I am wanting to know the approximate value of this 38 special air weight revolver. And the year it was made?

For year of manufacture, you need make, model, calibre and serial number.

Value depends on condition and a gun shop is your best bet for that. Once you know the year, you can Google for sites that sell and that will give you a good idea of value in a ball park figure.

If you Google that, you will find the sites that lists the serials.

The Smith and Wesson forums would be a good resource for you.

I got a 1983 xr80. What are the piston/cylinder clearance specs.. stock? And how much can I hone/bore out?

most piston /ring kits come in .010" , .020",.030",.040" oversize
most engine re-conditioners use cnc borers set to an over size and bore to that
after honing to get the correct cross hatch pattern in the bore , that is it
the ring gap is what is important and it should be around .003" per ever 1" of bore
so for a 3" bore the gap should be around .010"
experience has proved that if the cylinder is bored to say .020" oversize then when the gap for .020" oversize rings is checked ,it generally comes in around .015 and even as large as .020"
max specs for ring gaps is .025" which is for a worn cylinder
just honing a bore is a waste of effort as bores wear in a taper ( larger at the top than the bottom and this taper increases the wear of the new rings and can lead to broken rings
the ridge at the top of the bore has to be removed to allow the piston to come out easily and to prevent piston failure when the new rings are fitted
have a talk with engine reconditioning shops and then make an informed decision
remember that if the cylinder can be separated from the crankcase , you can buy standard or oversize piston/ring/cylinder sets as assemblies so there is no need to bore out or hone.

What is the sizes on new & worn rings on Bajaj RE205 Piston

the size of the ring will be determined by the bore size
so if it is a 3"(75mm) bore the ring will be that size if placed in the bore separate to the piston and pushed square and to the bottom of the bore the ring gap will denote if standard , worn or oversize to standard
new rings in new bores will have a ring gap of around .010"
worn rings will have a larger gap up to .040" and will have sharp edges where the ring lands wear the rings
over size rings in standard bore probably won't even fit in the bore to start with
ring sets are bought in standard size , .010" over size,.020" oversize,.030" oversize,.040" oversize with the oversize equalling the final hone of a machine bore
so if the machine shop bores the cylinder out to .020" oversize then you need .020" oversize rings to maintain the correct ring gap
from experience I have found that if I follow that rule , on measuring the ring gap at the bottom of the bore the ring gap is about .015" or half worn out
I counter this by getting the next size ring .030" and filing the ends of the rings at the gap to obtain the .010" gap This has produced better longer lasting repairs

Piston clearance to boor on 6g74 paero motor

.08mm or .003" max measured at the bottom of the skirt. A good fitting is using a feeler strip beside the piston and the bore and a spring balance gauge , it will need 7 lb pull on the gauge to remove the feeler strip. These measurements are for a parallel bore and not for worn bores as they will be tapered from the wear

What would cause my transmission to whine, but only in gear, not in neutral or park?

Time for a trans rebuilt

What your hearing is mostly pump noise, from
fine debris in the pump valve bores or worn bores

2001 is way over due to come apart

Worn out from heat & wear & seldom seen a fluid change

Funny shifting is worn & hardened rubber parts, partially
clogged solenoids, dirty valve body, the usual, given the years
& mileage on it

Loosing oil no leaks no oil splatter on motor

Either it's leaking into your cooling system due to a blown head gasket, or you are burning it (oil) due to engine wear such as worn valve guides or piston ring/bore wear. Have a compression check done. (By the way it's losing not loosing) Is the exhaust very blue in colour? that indicates burning oil

My mitsubishi canter 4d32 engine had all its 4 top compression rings broken ie one from each bore what can possibly cause that and what amount of smoke or mist should i expect from the breather after...

As an engine wears the ring lands on the pistons wear also. In addition to ring land wearing on the piston, the bore in the cylinder develops a wear pattern. Has the engine been rebuilt?
If the pistons have worn ring lands and were re-used it may allow the rings (new or old) to twist in the grooves and catch on any ridge in the cylinder, thus breaking them.

When the engine is apart you must check for proper ring land wear. You need to consult the piston manufacturer for proper wear specs, typically around 0.006in.

If you're getting a visible amount of smoke/oil from the breather after the rebuild something is not right. The rings are not seating. I would definitely recommend boring/honing the cylinders and going with a new set of pistons/rings so you don't have to pull it apart again. A little more now can save a lot in the long-run.

Every time i wear blue jeans in my 2011 Lacrosse the leather gets stained blue. This does not happen with any other articles of clothing. It is not limited to one pair but all blue jeans

Shot out of the blue (no pun intended). Try boiling the jeans in a salt water solution, it might set the colour and remove excessive dye. No guarantee but might be worth a try.

Torque converter circuit stuck in open. what are possible diagnoses

TCC stuck open in a 4T60E can be either the TCC solenoid gone bad,or the actual TCC valve and bore in the valvebody is worn out.I rebuild transmissions for a living, and i have a reamer for the TCC bore that oversizes the bore, and then install an aftermarket oversized valve to restore hydraulic integrity. What happens is,the valve is PWM (pulse width modulated) which means it basically vibrates in the bore, and strokes many many times per second.Well, all this pulsing wears out the bore,so it must be oversized. But when the bore becomes worn out, sometimes the valve will literally get stuck and won't move.
