Four keys in Belkin wireless keyboard are not working

If only specific keys are not working, something is obstructing those keys\' pickups which are located immediately beneath the keys. This is almost always caused by food debris or liquid spillage as dust doesn\'t provide particles big enough to cause issues.

If those four keys feel "funny" when being pressed, it\'s almost certainly a physical obstruction. If they feel "sticky" it\'s always a liquid spill. If you don\'t recall spilling anything over the keyboard, use a can of compressed air (found at office supply stores).

Turn the keyboard long side up, with the keys leaning slightly downward. Place the air nozzle close to the intersections of the keyboard, starting at one side and work your way to the other side, using short bursts of air. Repeat for every row of keys. Pay special attention to the four that do not currently work.

You\'ll probably see lots of junk fall out of the keyboard. That\'s good, if so--I would then retest the keyboard (no need to reboot the computer). That should fix it--if not, you may have to resort to pulling off the keys that don\'t work. The next possibility would be broken key hinges, but that\'s beyond the scope of this reply.

For liquids, cleaning is hit or miss. If left long enough, liquids will eat away at the circuits, or provide a short circuit and kill the component. Since only four keys are affected, I\'m really leaning towards food debris, but if you did spill a liquid, you can disassemble the keyboard and clean up any residue under and around the keys. Probably best to use rubbing alcohol and a q-tip for that--but if you\'re not comfortable taking stuff like this apart, it might be time for a new keyboard, or find a handy friend. Good luck!

HOw to Clean your keyobard effectively

Keyboard cleaningIf you're trying to clean a laptop keyboard see document CH000780 for additional help and information. All of the below information applies to standard desktop computer keyboards.
Why? Dirt, dust and hair can build up causing the keyboard to not function properly.
Procedure: Many people clean the keyboard by turning it upside down and shaking. A more effective method is to use compressed air. Compressed air is pressurized air contained in a can with a very long nozzle. Simply aim the air between the keys and blow away all of the dust and debris that has gathered there. A vacuum cleaner can also be used, but make sure the keyboard doesn't have loose "pop off" keys that could possibly be sucked up by the vacuum.
Why? If the keyboard has anything spilt into it (ie: pop, cola, Pepsi, Coke, beer, wine, coffee, milk, etc.), not taking the proper steps can cause the keyboard to be destroyed.
Procedure: Below are a few recommendations to help prevent a keyboard from becoming bad once a substance has been spilt within it.
If anything is spilt onto the keyboard turn the computer off immediately. Once the computer is turned off, quickly flip the keyboard over helping to prevent the substance from penetrating circuits. While the keyboard is upside down, shake the keyboard over a surface you do not mind getting wet or that can be cleaned up later. While still upside down, use a cloth to help clean out what can be reached. After you you have cleaned the keyboard to the best of your ability leave the keyboard upside down for at least one night allowing it to dry.
If a keyboard does not work after trying it again later it is recommended that it be replaced. If the keyboard works but some of the keys are sticky or cannot be pressed in you can attempt to do additional cleaning in attempt to resolve the issue. Unfortunately many times when any sticky substance such as a non-diet pop is spilt directly onto the keyboard it's usually a loss unless you plan on spending dozens of hours attempting to clean each key.
Why? A keyboard that is used by multiple people, such as students or different employees, may need to be disinfected to help the spread of germs.
Procedure: Turn off the computer. Spray a disinfectant onto a cloth or damp a cloth with alcohol and rub each of the keys on the keyboard. As mentioned in our general cleaning tips, never spray any type of liquid onto the keyboard.

Question mark on keyboard stopped working Toshiba Laptop

Do you see/feel any condensation or any dust particals? The key may have either under it. First use compressed air under key. Pop off and clean under and pop on again. Refer to http://www.wikihow.com/Pop-a-Key-Back-Onto-a-Dell-Laptop-Keyboard to do this correctly. If not fixed the keyboard may need replaced.

My compaq laptop ctrl button not working

Normally you can "pop" the keys off the keyboard (with the laptop powered off of course). See if there is anything blocking the connection such as crumbs, dust, etc. Used compressed air to clear the area and reattach the key and see if that helps.

Compaq Presario V4000 laptop lower volume button (just to the right of the power on/off button) stays depressed. The button is concave now instead of convex. What to do?

Does the machine have regular keys (that remove) or a "blister switch" type key pad? Have you tried to use compressed air to remove any obstruction? OR try to pry the key, very gently, up? A LITTLE silicon spray? You may have to remove the keyboard. If you use the Tray Notification Area Sound Icon to increase volume what happens?

Shift keys dont work

If it's just the one shift key messing up it may be dirty. Pick up a can of Air-dust and blow out the key board and all around the "shift" key....also look to see if anything is spilled on it too....this can be fixed with isopropyl alcohol and compressed air. if this don't work then you need a new keyboard.

Sticking keyboard keys grrrrr no drink or anything

Get a can of compressed air and see if blowing on the keyboard will help. If not then Try a keyboard cleaning kit:

On my HP key board, the "left moving arroew is not working all of the sudden. There are 4 keys side by side. The left one not working

There may be something lodged underneath your keyboard. Try reading an online manual for your specific keyboard to see how you can take it apart. Remove the offending key, and try to find evidence of any obstruction. If you have compressed air, try blowing some air under the key.

Keyboard sticking

Clean the keyboard. Most of the keys can be safely "popped" out using a nail file or other thin lever. Don't pop out the larger keys, like the space bar, because they have a small wire spring in most models that can make them difficult to reinsert properly. Use canned air, a Swiffer, q-tips, or other methods (nothing wet, but a damp cloth that doesn't drip is OK) to get the obstructions cleaned away and then put your keys back.
