Battery went dead on Garmin 396. The unit worked with airplane power in GPS mode but displays "waiting for data" on Nexrad Radar. I have downloaded version 5.30 I should alao mention that...

You indicated that the battery went dead. Does the new battery work correctly? That is, does it show a full charge when you've had it plugged in overnight and disconnect the power? Try plugging it into AC power overnight and verify that the battery is accepting and holding a full charge. If it isn't, then unplug and turn the unit on and allow the battery to run all the way down. Then charge it fully. This resets the charge indicator. You may have to repeat it once. I did this and was able to again show that both my new and my old battery were working o.k. They should show about 8.1 V fully charged.
About the Nexrad problem. In the past I would need to refresh the XM receiver when this happened. XM walked me through it and I have the steps, but the links are no longer working. Maybe it is no longer required since the XM link now jumps to SiriusXM. I've not needed to refresh for a couple of years and I suspect they eliminated that requirement.
To verify that the XM antenna is connected: Turn unit off. Connect the XM receiver. Simultaneously press "on" and "enter" keys- hold both until data screen appears, which takes about 5 seconds. Second line from bottom indicates if it is seeing the XM receiver. This helps isolate where the problem is- i.e. if you have a faulty receiver, bad connection or a software problem. The only contact I know of now is Garmin 800-800-1020. They can give you the XM contact if the problem is on that side of the unit. There is other data here which may be of interest to you on this page. Turn unit off to close this window.
If you need your XM radio ID, turn 396 on. Press menu, menu, scroll to XM, then right to Info. XM Receiver ID is there. Write it down in case you talk to XM or they give you a way to refresh. There are other menus you can get into but if they show a problem I don't know the solution other than contacting Garmin and I don't have my XM receiver home so can't verify the steps.

My garmin iq 3600 has died I left the gps antenea put and it will n0t take a charge.garman has stopped repairs on this model

I suspect that your Lithium polymer battery is going bad. If the battery is more than two (2) years old, then the ability to hold a charge has depleted and it will be gone after about three years total. You probably need to replace it. see: http://www.newpower99.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GARMIN+NUVI+360&Show=ExtInfo&gclid=CPy2jceQ26UCFdk65QodMmeTyQ

for a possible replacement, or go on line and search for your particular battery model

It turns off automatically a few second after it turns on. The battery is new and it is fully charged.

That is how it responds when the battery is LOW, Check the fuse in the charger, it may NOT be charging, if you are sure, very sure that the battery is charged then the new batteries may not be working .

Verify that the charger is working. Verify that the batteries are truly charged.... if they drain that fast then they are bad.

My Magellan Maestro 3100 froze when it was powering down and now won't turn on.

plug it in to a know good charger..(the car charger has a light on it to tell you its working)

press and hold the power button for up to ten seconds...if that fails, i suspect the power port is defective as this is a very common problem with this model.

if someone here tells you to just replace the battery, i wouldnt waste my money till you verify what the problem is....i fix this all the time (daily) and i do not nor do i have to google my solutions.

good luck, let me know what you find.

Compaq presario battery charging

All you can do is to leave the battery out for a few days or longer. It will completely drain and then you can try charging it back up again. Im suspecting that the battery is starting to go bad anyway but at least this way you can verify this. If it still doesn't charge completely then the battery needs to be replaced.

Unit will not power on.

its probably not the battery, your gps should run even without a battery if the power port/circuit is ok. unfortunately this is a common problem that the usb port gets damaged with this and many other model of magellans gps systems.

if you had it plugged in to the car charger, make sure the green light is on while charging, if its not, you might have a blown fuse in the charger or the fuse for the cigarette adapter in the car.

if the green light is on, try letting it on for a few hours, then try and turn it on. if and when it turns on, you can verify if its charging by going to the system settings then the power option. the battery bar should turn green and move from right to left if its charging. if the battery is slightly low but the bar is not moving left to right, then its not charging.

you can check the charging by using the usb cable provided with your unit and hook it up to your computer to verify if its charging. but i suspect it has a bad power port (usb connector)

i hate to be the barer of bad news, because rarely do i get a good rating for being the barer of bad news, but hopefully you just have a bad charger or a blown fuse in your adapter or car.

good luck

Have a garmin gps3 that will not power up - batteries checked OK. gps hasn't been used for a couple of years. replaced batteries with new - no go

IF it stil won't pwer up with the dc plug, I suspect the internal battery. Lots of info online on replacement, you can CAREFULLY snip one lead as a a diagnostic test to take it out of the circuit. Good Luck!

My magellan3225 will only work on the battery and it only last 30 min. It will not run on the car charger it only will charge battery. Should it not operate on the car power?

is common for the usb port to go bad on these models and many others...start the gps and go to the system setting then power, with the gps pludded into a known good charger, you should see the power meter moving from left to right. if it is not moving, its not charging unless ofcourse the battery is fully charged. and i would suspect the usb port is damaged.
