If they are both connected to the same IDE cable, the one at the end of the cable must be set to Master and the other must be set to Slave. This is done my moving a jumper located on the back of the drive next to the IDE connector. This applies any time 2 devices are connected to the same IDE cable, not just optical drives but hard drives or Zip drives, etc.
this time to use another DVD drive is to at the back of your DVD drive, you can see the label at the back to set the jumper setting, which is two devices to be connect, one DVD Drive is a MASTE, put a small jumper to Master Setting, the other one DVD Drive is set the jumper to SLAVE... Automatically BIOS or system recognized you have two DVD Drive device connected on it... Always make sure both of them are connected properly to your PC, good luck!
