Check your BIOS and ensure the proper boot device is selected and enabled.(Look for the default boot device. Select the primary hard drive and save.)

If the sound you are referring to is a clicking sound, then it is a hard drive failure.
Your computer is trying to boot up the operating system from the hard drive, but when it fails to access the hard drive, it tries to boot up from other devices configured on the BIOS. Apparently, your next choice for booting the operating system is set to the LAN card. Hence, you get the message "PXE-E61 Media test failure", which means that the computer tried to boot up the operating system over the network but it found out that your network cable is not connected to your computer's network interface card.

PXE-E61 : Media test failure , check cable PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key don't have a boot disk

It sounds like your hard disk has gone, or not being recognized by the computer... Check if it seats well in it's place.
Unfortunately, laptop HDDs don't last long these days.

Comp won't boot

This could also happen if the hard drive is dead and trying to boot the next item or the BIOS has the Netboot option set as the first boot device.

Jump into your BIOS and make sure that the boot order is CDROM then USB then HDD. Then try again. Let us know what happens.
