Warm weather cranking instructions?

After your saw sits for any extended period of time, it is suggested to drain all the old gas out of the tank and replace it with fresh mixed fuel. Currently we are being provided 'summer blend' fuel in warm weather and 'winter blend' fuel in the winter. All fuel now being 'oxygenated fuel' has a tendency to lose its oxygenation which changes the blend (for lack of a better description). Old winter fuel can make a saw diffficult to start in the summer and vice-versa.

I wouldn't suggest running fuel with a high blend of alcohol because alcohol has a tendency to 'draw' moisture from the surrounding air and you can end up with water in your tank or gas can.

Alcohol can also deteriorate rubber components and cause fuel delivery problems due to swollen or cracked lines.

Never store your gas container directly on concrete or directly on dirt because that will cause moisture to condense on the inside surface of the fuel container above the level of the fuel. Always store gas cans on a rubber mat or on a wide board.

Always keep the filter clean and sawdust out of the carb vestibule area to minimize contaminates entering the system.

I'd suggest a full choke and a few sharp pulls until the plug fires, then go to half choke and pull sharply again and get ready to finger the throttle a bit until it warms up fully.

Is it important to change fragrances according to the different seasons of the year?

Yes, since heat increases the intensity of a fragrance. There are certain fragrances that are more appropriate for summer and other stronger scents that would be better for winter use. A good guideline to follow is to wear lighter scents in the summer and stronger in the winter. Citrus scents are perfect for summer while orientals are better for winter.

How often do i need to replace my fuel filter?

SIMPLE MAINT SCHEDULE , IS CHANGING IT ONCE A YEAR, but it depends where you live, If this truck is a diesel & you live in a northern climate, change your filter once a year but not until you know for ceretain that you are buying winter grade fuel, ie: nov
Reason for this is that there will be wax/parafin build up in the filter that your ran on the summer fuel, it can congeal in the filter in winter becasue of this build up. If you replace the filter in late autumn, then tat filter will not have a congeal problem because the there hasnt been anything but winter grade fuel through it, , and its safe to run all next summer , but the summers residue will cause problems next winter , so change again in late autumn .

What motor oil weight should I be using on my 96 olds 88....we live where the winter temps can go as low as -10 F and as hot as 95F in the summer

5w 30 or 10w 30 during the winter. After an oil change... check your oil after 200-300 miles of use. Is the level the same? If so your weight is fine. If it drops, it's to light of an oil and your engine is now "drinking it" like fuel, move to a heavier weight. As far as Changing between winter and summer. Changing Oil weights is not bad for your motor so if the winter you go with 5w 30 and it works, great, shoot for the same during the summer. If it seems to "drink it" during the summer using this weight, go up to the next (10w 30)

That being said. Changing from natural oil, to synthetic, back to naturual , or vice versa... swapping back and forth between these KINDS of oil has been known to cause damage. so whatever weight you decide on, stick with one "type", natural or synthetic.

Saw starts and runs for a few seconds (while warm) then dies like starved for fuel. Will restart with choke, but does same thing again. Sometimes it will run for a few seconds longer at full throttle, but...

Air filter clean?
Air filter port set for summer or winter ?
Check the fuel filter inside the tank to ensure that it is not dirty or hasn't fallen off.

Too much oil on the chain

If you are using winter grade bar oil, then when the temps warm up, you are going to go through a lot more bar oil, because the winter grade is much more loose compared to the summer oil. I would not be to worried about using too much oil, because it just means that it is working and lubricating the saw well. About switching to a larger bar, I would not recommend going to a larger bar than what came with the saw, Unless the manufacture states what size bars can be used for the saw. Going to a 20" or 22" bar could bog down the machine, making cuts slower and not as clean, since the increased length of the bar would be too much for the motor to handle. with the larger bar the chain would be larger as well. So the power needed to move that chain has to be increased as well. So unless the manual says something like, "available bars lengths are..." Then I would just stick with the bar size it came with.
