One cold water valve under bar sink

Just cap the open hot connection. When the valve is set to any intermediate position between hot and cold water will flow from the hot side to the cold side if there is any pressure difference. In your case the difference is your water pressure. You did nothing wrong you just did not finish the install.

Did you put hot to hot side? And cold to cold side?
Cold water pipe usually has shut-off valve.

Were is cold water inlet and hot water outel on model 71-40d b

Cold inlet and hot outlet are marked on top of water heater.
Usually there is a letter or word embossed into the metal top.

If tank is connected, then turn on hot water tap for a few moment and feel which pipe is hot.

Cold water enters bottom of tank through dip tube located on cold side. If hot and cold are reversed, the water heater will not perform as expected.

30 galons gas direct fired water heater.\r\nI get hot water for 2 minutes, then water gets cold

Hi,
The dip tube on the cold water side either is not there or it is broken off then the cold water stays on the top and gives cold water quickly...

If this is a new installation then check that the piping is correct and that the cold and hot pipes are not switched...

How does rhe hot and cold water hook up on a 71-40d which is which top and bottom

Tanks are marked with Hot and Cold.
1) If water connections are on top of tank, look for red marking or word HOT that shows where hot water pipe connects. Look for blue marking or word COLD that shows cold water connection.
2) If water connections are on side of tank, cold water connects to bottom one, and hot connects to top.

3) If hot and cold are reversed, the tank will not work.
Pipes on top of tank: cold water enters tank and is sent to bottom of tank in a long tube called the dip tube. This means the cold is on the bottom since hot water rises to the top. The hot water exits top of tank.
Pipes on side of tank: You want cold water to enter bottom, so hot water naturally rises to the top outlet.

Hot water comes out cold side for few seconds and gets cold, no hot from hot side, only cold

Make sure that the water pipes for the cold water coming in and the hot water going out are connected to the correct positions on the water heater. If the connections get reversed, the water that is supposed to be hot will be drawn from the bottom of the tank and will not be as hot as it should be. The cold water input goes to the bottom of the tank. The hot water out comes from the top of the tank.

No water coming out of carver cascade water heater

is the cold side hooked to the cold side if not you will be feeding the unit backwars making it to where the cold is just comming across the top of the tank, check the dip tube also, this makes the cold water go to the bottom and push the hot out of its outlet,, how many faucets are involved, if just one might want to check the cartridge to make sure it is working properly

Hot water taps and showers pressure very low cold taps ok

there is a little cap on the hot and cold side above the shut off valves, turn the water off at these valve and take the caps off there are filters in there clean them off and reinstall them that should take care of the problem, you might want to flush the tank while your at it hook a hose to the hot side connector and run it out side or to a sump pump then turn on the cold water and flush it out you can also reverse this procedure by doing it on the cold side
