Closed caption and black square

I have read everywhere that the black square box in my tv is due to closed captions, and i should disable it in order to get rid of such square.
I want to be able to use close caption!!! is there a way to have closed captions without that square?
My tv is hooked up to the cable box via composite video so the closed captions setting are in the cable box since my tv disables closed caption when using composite input.
Closed caption on the cable box are set to "cc1"
need help ASAP i've tried everything

I have Olevia LCD tv, and i keep getting a 10"x4" block that shows up in the middle of my screen every so often. Sometimes words or symbols will show up in the box pertaining to whatever i may be watching at the time. The only way to get rid of it is to manually change the channel, then it will either go away for a minute or two or for good amount of time. Though, it shows up everyday. I just want to get rid of it

I also have the problem of the 10" X 4" black square on my Olevia 27" set. It is very annoying and I don't have CC turned on. It shows up on occasion with cable tv, never on DVD's.

We have a Sharp Aquos LC-42D64U at work in our Fitness Center. The closed caption disappeared off the TV and I cannot get it to come back on. When I hit the cc button, only text 1 and 2 show along with the black box and not any CC1 or CC2? I cannot find where to turn the text off anywhere and turn on CC.

Your TV do not disable close caption in composite mode. It may in component mode. Please make sure that the close caption in your TV menu is not set to "text"
Please be advice that CC :Text is the ONLY one that can give you a black box.

Best regards

We get a black square on Fox and one children's cartoon network only. I have close captioning set off on my Uverse box menu. Is their anything else I need to do on the Olevia setup menu to eliminate the...

This is most commonly caused by the use of a Closed Caption text box. This type of Closed Caption is not always supported by the broadcaster, and results in the appearance of a black rectangle with scrambled or no text.

This can be quickly resolved by adjusting the Closed Caption type to "CC1" or by disabling the Closed Caption feature on your television.

get in the menu and change the close caption with the Olevia remote control

This should fix you right up

Square box in middle of t.v. black everywhere else.

Turn off the closed-captioning. If it's set for text mode, the screen will blank out an area for the text to be displayed. On channels or programs where captions aren't being used you won't see any problems, but other times you'll have the mysterious black box. Many TV remotes have a single button to control captions, so it's easy to get into text mode without knowing it.

Turning off Closed Captioning

On the 27" TruFlat the closed caption button is hidden within the DVD buttons. You have to press it multiple times to shut off closed caption. It seems to have multiple sources for closed captions. Press the button until no source appears on the screen. ITS CONTROLED AT THE REMOTE CONTROL - NOT ON THE ON-SCREEN TV MENUS. Good Luck

Black square image on screen

meknow is right I think. To turn off your closed captioning hopefully all you need to do is get into the setup menu. You didn't list what kind of TV you have so this is a generic solution. Go into menu and in a setup menu there will be a closed captioning way to select to turn the box off.
The reason sometimes you see it and sometimes you don't is because some programs have closed cationing and some don't.
And because you are only seeing a blank box and not closed captioning is because there are different closed captioning standards. CC1, CC2, etc.
So if you can find the menu item that allows you to turn off the closed captioning, it would be a good start to solving your problem.

Closed caption

Closed caption wont turn off was solved by Bresnan tech. He told me the only way was to push the power button on my remote & then push the menu button right away & it would bring up a white screen & cc would be on it. I could't get it to work so I pushed the power button on my remote & the menu button on my motorola cable box & up came the screen & closed caption was on it. I disabled it & it took off the closed caption. Hope this helps

Black square in middle of screen about 25in X 25 in

If a black square appears on the screen and you can see the picture around the edges, it means that the closed captions are on and set to "TEXT". Go into the TV's menu, navigate to the closed captions page and set the captions to OFF.

Blach block out

if your big black square starts about the middle of the tv & goes down close to the bottom, you have closed caption text turned on. normal closed caption is small, but test caption, is just a big black box with no writing in it. go into your menu & shut it off, it could even be a button on your remote called, "caption", or "cc". good luck.
