Question about Onkyo Tx Ds575x - Av Receiver - 5.1 Channel

1 Answer

Hooked up receiver and speakers taken out of storage. All speakers are working via optical cable except the 2 front channel speakers.

Troubleshoot; checked front speakers and wiring by moving connections to "speaker B" connectors and the worked. Is there a way to test whether the front channel is out?

Additional information; I'm trying to hook my Onkyo/ Polk 5.1 home theater up to a new LG LB7200 Smart TV via the optical link. Like said in my original inquiry all speakers center, r/l satellite, & sub are working, but the r/l front speakers are mute. I've searched for possible config setting error, nothing found. The receiver perfect when stored for 10yrs. Are the individual channels internally fused? Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.

Surround problem with Yamaha HTR-5930 5.1 Channels Receiver

The signal that comes from most tv's via the optical output is a stereo signal only. That is what your receiver is reading. You would have to manually set your receiver to decode the signal into surround,.

I cant connect my Denon avr 682 to my pc via optical??

I would change your setting on your receiver to digital. its probably on analog. look for a button that says that. You might have to change your input have a look at the rear and see if it says, DVD optical or CD and choose that input.

Hi, my problem is only the front 2 speakers work i have tried all the speakers in the front 2 connections of the unit & all speakers are working but none when in the rear, center, & sub woofer unit...

Without knowing which receiver etc you have... make sure your "mode" is set to 5 channel, Dolby Pro or similar. And even then, make sure your source is 5 channel. What are you using for an input cable? It needs to be able to provide 5 channel. Standard RCA stereo type cords do not. You need either optical, "coax" or hdmi. Lastly do you actually have a 5 channel program? Many older movies, and standard cable boxes only output stereo, not 5 channel.

PCM is what it's receiving from the DVD player. The player has output bitstream settings, too, maybe even speaker configurations and distances. Read its manual.

It sounds like the BDP unit is set to downmix PCM to the Optical Digital Audio output (the default). You need to change it to something like Dolby Digital. Crack the manual and look at all the digital audio settings you need to choose.

I have an almost exact set-up and you will only get sound out of your rear speakers when the TV channel is broadcasting in 5.1 Ch Stereo. Otherwise the sound is limited to your front, center, and woofer speakers.

I was talking with LG on virtually the same problem. I have a samsung blu-ray player hooked up via HDMI. Even though the blu-ray is outputting 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1, the LG is only outputting 2 channel unless you switch to pro logic. LG states that this is a known problem and that you are to return the system to where you bought it for a replacement. Call the 1-800 number and they should give you the same answer.
