Air Filter message

Message that we need to clean air filter comes up. We clean the filter but it will not let us press yes that we clean it. Also the temp light keeps blinking. We replaced the bulb in August 2007.

    Same issue, any ideas?

  • fever42 Feb 11, 2008

my tv is cutting off after 1 minute saying that it needs filter cleaning service what should i do.

  • Phuckie Feb 23, 2008

Got the same problem. Took the whole damn TV apart. Volume Down + Stop does NOT reset the filter. Try again. I have a pt-60lc14 as well.

Volume Down + Play did although reset the lamp... whatever that does.

  • Phuckie Feb 23, 2008

Maybe give instructions on how to REMOVE the filter. I see the panel to the left (lamp) and the panel in the middle (fan + filter[??]) but i see no way how to remove it. Its screwed in from the bottom and theres no way to remove the screw.

I have the PT-44LCX65 with the same problem. I have cleaned the entire TV but cannot seem to get to the menu to reset the filter. No problem resetting the lamp, but the TV always turns off after about 20 minutes. Remember the good old days when TVs would work for 10-15 years with no problems. Another consumer ripoff scheme from big corporations!

  • Showerr Jul 12, 2008

my pt60lcx64 got same problem , too.

i cleaned the filter, but the message still comes out and turns off the tv. How annoying the tv is !

According to the service manual, in order to get to the filter first
you must take off lamp, then the back cover, the big fan on the right
and the whole projection unit. The filter is on the reverse side of
    projection unit.

so far i almost took the whole tv apart but still cant get it done. if anyone have any suggestion pleast let me know.

Soulvisitor has it right. I had the same problem and the stupid tv would shut off after 1 minute. We opened the silver front panel , took the bulb out cleaned it, took the cover off the grey box to the right and very carefully vaccumed the filter and wiped it off with a microfiber cloth. It works great now!!! Make sure you unplug your tv before messing with it. Thank you Soulvistor you saved us at least $100.00

Remove silver panel on front marked HDTV and BBE

Open bulb compartment

On the right side of the bulb compartment is the filter compartment

Remove filter and clean

Every 400hours it will prompt to do so.

Enter Service Mode: With the TV powered off (make sure it's off for a few minutes before trying this, or you'll wait for the customary cooldown period before anything happens if you turn the set off and try this stuff immediately), press and hold both the "VOLUME Down" button on the TV itself and the TV/VIDEO key on the remote control simultaneously for about 7 seconds (they say over 5 seconds in the manual). The TV will be turned on and it will have a screen full of status data atop an active TV channel.

Next, press the SWAP/STOP key on the remote for more than 5 seconds.

You should be taken to a screen that has " LAMP/FILTER/IIC" as a selectable entity. Press the Action key to select it and move to the next screen of info.

You'll see a status screen with the number of Service Mode Resets of the Lamp run time (I inadvertently reset my Lamp to 0 hrs after 95 hours of initial operation, and I'll show you how to avoid that in a minute). You'll also see Total Time, which I assume is total TV run time, Lamp Run Time, and Filter Time, all in hours.

You can backchain to the the prior screens with the Recall button on remote.

To exit this service mode entirely, you must turn off the TV.

You can also enter a different service mode menu to control a number of parameters, as I first learned from Doug McDonald at this link >> when I was trying to learn how to perform service mode color adjustments.

Depress the "Volume Down" button on the set itself while concurrently depressing the "Recall" key on the remote for about seven seconds, and you'll be taken into "Work Mode". At this point, you can press the Action key, and select "Information", where you'll not only see Input mode (as usual) but also Lamp Run Time (but not Filter time or total run time).

You can enter the more advanced service mode menu by pressing and holding the Volume Down button down on the set itself while concurrently depressing the SWAP/STOP key on the remote for more than five seconds. -- This displayed a Factory Adjust menu, with bunch of settings. See Doug's message for more details. (Do not press Vol Down on the set and PIP/PLAY on remote simultaneously, or you'll reset the Lamp time to 0hrs as I did !)

Unfortunately, the service manual does not describe all the tweakable settings in the Factory Adjust menu.......

Reset air filter

Page 58 of the user manual says that after cleaning the filter when the power is turned on, you will be given the opportunity to reply "Yes" to the question "Did you clean the filter". I suggest you go through the motions of cleaning the filter again, removing the necessary parts. Then replace the parts, turn the power on, and watch carefully for the message "Did you clean the filter".

After turning on the projector, I get a message that says clean the filter and reset the timer. How do I do that? I have cleaned the filter.

Procedure for resetting filter time.
Pressing the RESET button for about 3 seconds displays the FILTER TIME menu. Select the RESET using button to reset the timer. : RESET <- CANCEL Selecting the RESET resets the count of the lamp timer to 0. memo Perform this function only when you have cleaned or replaced the air filter. My hitachi cpx201 projector says to check the air flow

Hi There Teacher!
the air filter unclips on the left hand side, lens facing out.
after vacumming out the filter see below for filter reset counter procedure
Good Luck!
Turn the projector on and reset the filter time using the FILTER TIME item in the EASY MENU. Before taking care of the air filter, make sure the power switch is off and the power cable is not plugged in, then allow the projector to cool sufficiently. Taking care of the air filter in a high temperature state of the projector could cause an electric shock, a burn or malfunction to the projector. Use only the air filter of the specified type. Do not use the projector without the air filter or the filter cover. It could result in a fire or malfunction to the projector. Clean the air filter periodically. If the air filter becomes clogged by dust or the like, internal temperatures rise and could cause a fire, a burn or malfunction to the projector. WARNING Please replace the air filter when it is damaged or too soiled. When you replace the projection lamp, please replace the air filter . An air filter of specified type will come together with a replacement lamp for this projector . Please reset the filter time only when you have cleaned or replaced the air filter, for a suitable indication about the air filter. The projector may display the message such as ?gCHECK THE AIR FLOW?h or turn off the projector, to prevent the internal heat level rising. NOTE (1) Press the MENU button to display a menu. (2) Point at the FILTER TIME using the ??/?? button, then press the button. A dialog will appear. (3) Press the ?? button to select RESET on the dialog. It performs resetting the filter time.
