Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

My dewalt 18 volt Dc988 XRP will not engage when you squeeze the trigger all the time. It goes in streaks or is intermittent. Also the variable speed is not working. it only goes one speed.

Your switch is having a problem it can be caused by excessive load on the motor.
The motor must be sounds not shrill and must have power , the most people think on the batteries but in more case by switch problems its the motor there is a field effect transistor inside the switch behind the cooling brass plate thats shorted and that is for the variable rpm .
Replace switch and if the motor sounds good then the problem should solved. if also the motor is bad go for a new replacement body ask your dealer.

I own a DC988 XRP drill. I recently used it for drilling some holes. While drilling I heard a pop and now the drill only spins at a slow speed. Any advice as to what component needs replacing? Brushe

That drill had several speed options, do you have it on high?

Brushes are usually a power/torque issue and wouldn't effect speed unless they were really bad

Dewalt dcd950 chuck

Its is about a 2 years modified the XRP chucks In Netherlands the model 950 is not QS made for europe but all the XRP machines have had a special solide looking Chuck For the original Chuck there was a special tool to remove the chuck the gearbox must be open to and a special N119912 a complete unit of repair tools to remove the chuck and replace , BUT the new modificated repair is by get a normal standard keyless chuck , asked them for about the modification because of the older repair tools and chuck http://www.2helpu.com/world/map.aspx it's about much more cheaper to choose for modification the N119912 is possible renumbered thats possible the right same tool because of the model DCD 950 is not selled in Netherlands . the DCD945 instead of but it means the same kind of modification .

Switch sometimes does not work

The switch on these drills is notorious for doing exactly what you describe. One thing to check is the battery terminals on the bottom of the switch, they get bent or broken off easily. It could also be internal to the switch but the only fix is to replace it. You need Dewalt part number 152274-22 to repair the drill. It's a fairly easy repair but shop the internet, they cost from $55 to $75 plus shipping.

Diagram for rebuilding DeWalt DC988

Yes.

Go to dewaltservicenet.com and look up your model. (Hint: Press the "Go" button on the screen not the Enter button on your keyboard to submit your model in the field). Make sure you have your type number available.

If your transmission is in a million pieces I can help you get it back together. There is no diagram for the transmissions.
