How do I connect the Norstar M7324 telephone to an expansion set?

Your expansion box is a CAP (central answer position) module. I will assume you are using the same jack as before. The line cord, from phone to jack should be 6 conductor (count pins on end). A short line cord runs from back of phone to back of CAP (plugs on CAP are labelled) then the longer cord runs from CAP to the wall jack.

I have an HP 2510 printer. I cannot use it to fax because once I plug the phone jack into the printer I get a busy signal. If I plug the jack into a phone, it works fine. How do I get the printer to...

Hi irwinbadin,

HP fax products are designed so that other telephone equipment can be connected on the same line as the fax. The unit must be connected first using a two-conductor fax/phone cable like the one that shipped with the HP product. Using a four-conductor telephone cable may cause problems receiving faxes or calls.

There are two different types of phone cables. There are two-conductor phone cables like what originally shipped with the HP fax product and there are four-conductor cables. HP fax products are designed to work with a two-conductor phone cable. Look at the end of the cable and verify that it has only two copper leads or wires. Replace any four-conductor cables with a two-conductor cable. Only two-conductor phone cables should be used to connect the all-in-one to the phone line.

Figure 1: The difference between a two-conductor phone cable and a four-conductor phone cable
reyjoshua07_5.jpg

Step one: Connect the phone line to the fax
The fax will have two or three sockets (or jacks) for phone lines. Some of these may have a removable plastic plug in them. These sockets will be labeled with text, To Wall Jack , or with a graphic of the wall jack. See Figure 1 below.

Plug the two-conductor telephone cable that came with the HP product into the telephone wall jack. Then, plug it into this socket as shown below.

In areas with above ground telephone lines and electrical storms (lightning), it is a good idea to purchase a telephone line surge suppressor and connect it between the telephone wall jack and the fax. This will help prevent damage to the fax from a lightning-caused power surge on the phone line.

Step two: Add other phone-line devices
To connect other telephone devices, use the other socket (or sockets) on the fax. These are identified by text or with a graphic of a telephone and/or computer.

Connect a caller ID unit between the fax and the telephone.
Use the information below that matches the devices you need to connect.

Fax and telephone
Connect a single-line telephone to one of the added sockets on the fax. The telephone will share the same phone line as the fax. See the illustration below.

Fax, answering machine, and telephone
When a telephone answering machine and telephone are connected, connect the answering machine to the fax and then connect the telephone to the answering machine as shown below.

Fax and computer modem
To use a fax and a computer modem on the same phone line, connect the fax to the computer modem. The modem socket on the computer may be labeled Line or Wall jack .

reyjoshua07_9.jpg

Fax, computer modem, and telephone
To use a computer modem and a telephone with the fax, connect the computer modem to the fax. Then, connect the telephone into the second phone line connector on the computer modem or the third fax socket (if it is available). The image below shows how to connect a computer and a telephone to a fax with two sockets.

reyjoshua07_10.jpg

Fax, modem, answering machine, and telephone
The image below shows how to connect a computer modem, answering machine, and telephone to a fax. Connect the computer modem to the fax, then connect the answering machine to the computer, and finally, connect the telephone to the answering machine.
If the fax has three phone line sockets instead of two, some of the devices can be connected to the other phone socket on the fax.

Hope it helps.

My dimension 3100 is not detecting a modem

Sir,
Respectfully please first check if there is a modem in the desktop PC since the dimension 3100 is not pre-equipped with a modem. you have to attach an internal modem manually on one or more PCI slots on the mother board.
the process is given here....

1
  • Turn off the computer. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Disconnect the power cord, attached peripheral devices and any other cables.

  • 2 Locate the cover release latch on top of the computer, near the back. Place the computer on its side, with the removable cover facing upwards. Slide the cover release latch back and lift the removable cover off of the computer. Set the removable cover aside.

  • Locate the PCI and PCI Express slots near the bottom of the system board. Select a slot that corresponds with your internal modem card. Open the card retention door on the back of the computer and remove the filler bracket for the card slot you will be using.

  • 4 Place the internal modem card into the appropriate card slot and press it firmly into place. Close the card retention door. Replace the removable cover and return the computer to an upright position.
  • 5 Connect one end of the telephone cord into the LINE port on your internal modem card; plug the remaining end into a telephone jack. If desired, connect a telephone to the internal modem card via the PHONE port.
  • 6 Reconnect the power cord and all previously disconnected cables. Plug the power cord into an available electrical outlet. Turn on the computer. If any installation software came packaged with the internal modem card, run the program and follow the onscreen directions. Your internal modem is now ready for use.

    Help connecting brother fax machine

    1. Connect the handset.
Connect the curled handset cord to the bottom of the handset and to the left side of the machine.
    2. Connect the power cord.
    3. Connect the telephone line.
Connect one end of the telephone line cord to the jack labeled LINE on the left side of the machine. Connect the other end to a modular wall jack.
    WARNING
This machine must be grounded using a three-prong plug.
Since the machine is grounded through the power outlet, you can protect yourself from potentially hazardous electrical conditions on the telephone line by keeping the power to your machine on when you connect it to a telephone line. When you want to move your machine, protect yourself by disconnecting the telephone line first, and then the power cord.
Lightning and power surges can damage this product! We recommend that you use a quality surge protection device on the AC power line as well as on the telephone line, or unplug the lines during a lightning storm.

The telephone line cord is connected to the [EXT] jack on the unit. Connect to the [LINE] jack (page 21).

L If you use a splitter/coupler to connect the unit, remove the splitter/coupler and connect the unit to the wall jack directly. If the unit operates properly, check the splitter/coupler.

L Disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired. If the

working telephone does not operate properly, contact your telephone company.

L The power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the connections.

L If you connected the unit through a computer modem, connect the unit directly to a telephone line jack.

In Use Memory is flashing and there is a clicking sound.

Okay, this is what happens when you put your USB cable into the external device jack next to the telephone line jack (instead of the USB port). Once you plug the stuff in correctly, the problem goes away.
