You're leaking toner somewhere inside the printer. If you've recently changed cartridges...

otherwise it might be time for a good cleaning, because once unfused toner starts moving around inside a printer you have to clean every roller in the paper path.

Printer has light grey background after printing

Hi Mel:
Just a thought, is there a "greyscale" setting?
When I try to print I have the choice of Black & White, colour, and greyscale.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Red speckles in the background of printed items

Hello Minnowillo!
Theres a few things you need to do first to determine what its causing the problem
Here are somo steps you can follow:
1) Print a Supply status report (Main Menu > Reports > Supply status)
If you still see the red speckles on this page we can tell that the problem is not on the computer
Check toner level on this supply status, if its showing lower than 10 % i would recommend to replace the cartridge
2) Run 3 Calibrations in a row (Main Menu > System Setup > Print Quality > Calibrate Now)
3) Run 2 cleaning modes ( Main Menu >Services > Cleaning Mode)
4) Access the secondary service by hitting the checkmark and the cancel button at the same time, then hit the checkmark again
Under the secondary service look for "Clean Belt" anr run it twice
Try printing again
As a recommendation most of this print quality issues are related to a defective cartridge (scratches on the cartridge drum) so if you have a spare cartridge i would start replacing it
If you determine that the problem is not the cartridge, that means the problem is with a defective roller and it will need service

Background

You need to clean nozzles. Go to canon tools and find clean nozzle option. Perfor operation a couple of times, just in case.
If this does not work you will need to open your priner, physically clean heads with a cloth. After this you may need to empty the waste ink tank inside the printer and eventually change the sponge inside it.
Hopefully we are in first scenario and you will fix it doing a simple nozzle/head clean from canon software in windows, without disassembling the printer.

Problem with phaser

Phaser 2135 Printer: Resolving dirty looking background or gray haze

Description: Tiny speckles of toner scattered all over the page, even in areas of the page that should be blank.
  1. Make sure the media being used is supported by the Phaser 2135 printer.
  2. Inspect imaging drums for any signs of leakage or excess toner that could be falling onto the print as it travels though the printer. Any leaking imaging drums should be replaced.
  3. Verify environmental conditions. See article Dealing with humidity, humidifiers. If the environmental conditions are not within the specified range, the printer should be moved before trying to troubleshoot the cause to the background toner.
  4. Determine if any of the imaging drums were exposed to light for an extended period of time (more than 10 minutes). If so, then Replace the imaging drum. (Xerox is not responsible for any imaging drums that have been damaged by over exposure to light.)
Additional Recommendations:
Background toner may increase, if printing occurs at temperatures towards the higher end of the specified operating temperature range. For this reason, it is recommended that the printer be moved to another area if at all possible.
In addition, very smooth media types such as glossy; allow toner to more easily scatter about the page prior to becoming fused. Try using a less smooth media if at all possible.

Pop and screen goes distorted/ partially grey

Try to replace the Y Sustain board. May get it from LG Electronics. For the red speckle syndrome, try to reduce the Vs or Vsc voltages 5-10V below their specification values. The specification values are printed on the back of PDP panel.
