Question about Echo Garden

So I replaced the carburetor, air and fuel filter, fuel lines, ignition coil, flywheel, carburetor gasket and clean the screen on the muffler, new spark plug and my Echo CS-400 chainsaw won't start

Air fuel and gas... It needs all of these

Are the crankshaft seals any good ??? This causes an air leak, leading to the engine not being able to draw in the air/fuel mixture
Check this by spraying carb cleaner into carb. Does it start ???
Did you check for spark ???
Did you set the coil gap ??? .010
Did you check compression ??? Someone mentioned 100psi. Close but most wont run under 90psi. Others need 120psi. Echo's will run under 90psi but not much lower
Did you remove the muffler and check the exhaust side of the piston ??? Scoring will keep it from running but I have seen them run, albeit poorly but still run with major scoring.
Is the spark arrestor still installed ??? Is it plugged ???

Most people don't realise that if you leave fuel inside these machines they act hydroscopically and retain water.this is what causes the most damage in the fuel lines and filter as it calcifies up part of fuel system..also you need to replace with the right filter...if it is a stone or ceramic then cloth or synthetic ones don't work and vice versa.did you also prime the fuel into first chamber?
if you have done all this you should check that the safety bar is returning back to its operational position and not clogged up with debris.apologies if you feel I am stating the obvious.

    depending how much work you want to do,i would suggest buying either the short block for 115 or buy a used motor from ebay for 40+- .

    there are four bolts on the bottom that hold the block in,you will have to figure out the rest,it isnt hard,using a brand new block is a good thing,now it will run another 20 years,good luck,let me know how it goes.john

    I have a problem now. I ordered the short block from online which suppose to be deliver in two weeks. I received an email saying that the part is on back order and it maybe deliver around the second week in May. My question is should I cancel the order and look for another part or keep the order for a Echo CS-400 Short Block?

With all this did ever checked the compression or the cylinder/piston conditions? 2 cycles require at 100psi to even start.

Grass trimmer running only on full choke


hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vacuum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum,also the gas will evaporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out,replacing gaskets or fuel line if necessary.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where they want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow until machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding against engine to check spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter,hope this helps,any comments welcome,thank you, !!

My husqvarna 24c wont stay on and when you press the throttle, it turns off. The air filter sees clean and I cant figure out what it is.


This is probably a fuel delivery issue. You need to start at the fuel tank and work your way to the carburetor. Check condition of the tank, the fuel filter in the tank, all fuel lines (including the ones in the tank). Fuel lines crack with age and deteriorate. They lose material and it can sometimes clog the fuel filter in the fuel tank and/or the carburetor. Try and remove carburetor for an inspection/cleaning. Make sure the primer bulb isn't cracked or leaking. The same goes for the gaskets on the carburetor. A bad air leak can cause your problem also, but start with the fuel system first. A carboned up exhuast port and/or muffler can also attribute to this problem. Remove and inspect the exhaust system.That is the exhaust port of the engine and the muffler itself. If you find a spark arrestor screen behind the muffler, scrape it clean. Post back if needed.

Chain saw has gas but it will not start


Remove the spark plug and test for spark at the plug--it should be blue and snappy with new or clean plug set at 0.020" gap. If weak or nothing, remove the starter side cover to expose the flywheel and the ignition module. Check the module pole gap using a thin business card for a gauge--turn the flywheel magnets under the module poles, insert the card into the gap, loosen the module mounting screws and allow the module to stick to the magnets. Re-tighten the screws, then rotate the flywheel somewhat to remove the card. Recheck for spark--if now good, ok. If still bad, replace the ignition module using the same business card as before. If the first test produced good spark, place some fuel mix in the plug hole and try to start. It should pop several times. If ok, then check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. Does the primer bulb fill with fuel after several pumps? If everything seems to be ok, Then you will likely need to clean and service the carburetor. Check especially, the lower diaphragm for hardness or cracking. There is a small screen filter in the main body that can be easily plugged with old fuel. Problem starting


Spark plug gap is: 0.020". Insulator should be a light to medium tan color. If black, then too much fuel going into the engine. Remove the flywheel side cover to expose the flywheel and ignition module. Check and set the gap between the flywheel magnets and the ignition module poles by using a thin business card for a gauge. Check the muffler, air cleaner, and fuel filter for plugging. Check the condition of the fuel lines and the primer bulb. Check the carburetor fasteners for tightness. The carburetor may need to be dis-assembled, cleaned and re-kitted. The diaphragm in the lower chamber needs to be flexible with no cracks or holes. With luck, this will get it running well again.

My homelite chain saw will only run after I prime the fuel once gas runs out engine stops running but reprime fuel the saw will run until fuel runs out any suggestions


Did you replace the fuel lines? If the filtered hose feeds the primer that is exactly what happens. Your fuel system should be similar to this.
Fuel Line Replacement
  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, an output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.

I bought a second hand RYOBI PLT3043a line trimmer and am failing to start it.


Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated
3) Check cylinder compression


Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

It would not crank up so i replaced the filter in the gas tank and seemed to have put it back together right

I have an old echo weedwacker that runs excellent for 10 minutes then dies when the trigger is squeezed until it cools down again. I checked all the obvious please help


sounds like a fuel problem, first check the fuel tank vent, thats the little whithe thing on the 3rd line comming out of the fuel tank, make sure you can **** air thru it
then check the fuel line for cracks, and of course the in tank fuel filter are clean. If none of these help take the carb apart and see if the screen on the metering diaphragm is obstructed with dirt. These are the most common solution for your problem. On the wild side, if it dies again, remove the spark plug as soon as it happens and see if you have lost spark, some of the ignition modules have a heat sensor in them that will short and stop the spark when it gets hot, if thats the case you will need to buy a new module, Not a common broblem but I have seen it a few times, Echo is probably the best built 2 cycle on the market..

My weedeater leaf blower never gets up to its' old speed. Runs about 1/2 the power. Tried a new spark plug and air filter. New gas didn't help.


Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
- aluminum or silver - piston/cylinder scored
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Compression - 125 to 150 psi

3) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated

Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
5) replace gaskets/diaphragms
b) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
