Question about Powermatic Saws

Powermatic66 single phase 3hp starter switch not working how do I as they say retrofit this switch

This saw had a square d 230 volt single phase starter on it. It would hum at startup but worked for a while then quit starting the saw. I thought the internal switch might be the problem so pulled motor and had it replaced along with new bearings. So motor ran fine at motor repair shop. Installed motor hooked up wires would not start. Ordered new NHD Powermatic starter switch and put it on still not starting. I have been looking on line for answers to this and may have a clue to a fix this switch has a dial that is set at 18 amps I think my saw motor need 14? Does anyone have advice>

After all the time i spent checking and rechecking my saw wiring. I found the problem was in the power supply cord. The electrican that insalled my wiring change the plug on my power cord to match the new wall plug . And the wire burned in to after a few uses of the saw.I did have a weak start capacitor and that may have overheated the wire. Thanks for the help guys.

It is not the switch. it is the start run capacitor. it is located under the hump on the motor. becarfull when you uncover it, it may still hold a charge. after you have removed the cover you must replace that shiny things that has all the wires in it. careful to put the wires back that way thy came. and get a capacitor with the same UF Microfarits.

SOURCE: I have recently purchased used powermatic 66 Table

That is the current setting for a motor-starter which is an overcurrent sensor. This is a circuit breaker like device that usually has a heater coil that opens a contact which cuts the power to the relay that powers the motor to prevent overload damage to the motor.

The dial is in AMPS and should be set just slightly higher than the nameplate amp rating for the motor.

SOURCE: I have a Powermatic model 66 table saw that hums

I am thinking that you have mistakenly crossed 2 or more wires, hopefully you wrote yourself a wiring diagram or there is one inside the motor cover. I don't know if I can find a wiring schematic for this tool. If you still have the owners manual look in there for initial setup and see if they provided one. If you need more help let me know and I will do what I can.

Jet table saw 3hp, low torque! New saw, correct electrical hook up, but not much power at the blade, so yes it runs but no torque! mag switch in test position, does it need to be in auto???

I am not sure what model you have but they have this saw in two models one is 230 volt only the other is 230/460 volt.
But that is not a 220 volt circuit. 220 volt is single phase where the 230/460 is a 3 phase circuit.
Look on your motor and see what the power requirement is.
if you have a different machine then the one I am looking at I would switch over to the auto function.

How many amps in the Vision Fitness T9500 HRT Treadmill

it is a 3 horsepower motor, but no amperage specified. The review does say this model has drawbacks.
Vision T9600 HRT Comfort Treadmill review

However, I found this, so 23 to 28 amps based on a 3HP motor.

Wiring schematic for MTB217 cooper b line

I would suggest taking a closer look at the motor name plate. I am not familiar with a 120/240 three phase service. When I checked the web it shows: Voltage 115/230 (that is single phase), Max Amps 115 Volts = 19.2 Max Amps 230 Volts = 9.6 , Single Speed, Square Flange, RPM = 3450, Threaded Shaft, Frame = 48Y Used on the following models: Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas, Max-E-Glas II, Dura-Glas, Dura-Glas II, Dyna-Glas, Dyna-Max Pentair Whisperflow, Pinnacle and Anthony AR2 Series. You should also show what voltage you are connected to.

Wire 230 volt air compressor wiring diagrams

On 230 volts you have 3 wires 2 are 115 volt and the third wire is ground. As long as you hook the ground wires together correctly the other wires don't matter. Usually the ground wire is either white or green. The black wires are hot (115 volts).

If the motor is 230 v then it should have three wires, black, red, and green, however if the motor is convertible from 120 to 230v then the wire from the motor may be black, white, and green. Check the motors label to see if it has different wiring configurations. If the motor is 230 v only then the white wire would be the other side of the 230 v circuit, and the pressure switch should break both sides. Neutral is not used. Note that some people would use a single pole pressure switch, although this will work it is not recommended.

My table saw will not start. the power source is good.

If the motor is using a single phase supply there will be a capacitor which could have reduced in value- open.
If so try and use a capacitor in parallel to see if the motor works-- in this case the motor might hum and get heated up.

Too change rotation of a 5hp 230 volt

HAVE A LOOK INSIDE THE MOTOR CONNECTION BOX. SOMETIMES ON THE LID ARE INSTRUCTIONS OF HOW TO DO THIS. YOU DID NOT SAY IF THIS WAS A CAPACITOR START UNIT OR NOT. IF THERE IS A CAPACITOR ON THERE IT COULD BE NO GOOD WHICH WILL MAKE THE MOTOR GO WHERE IT WANTS. A GOOD CAPACITOR KICKS IT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION ON SWITCH ON.

The motor itself should have a sticker which describes the wiring for 115. It is a small change involving a single wire moving from one pole to another inside the motor starter cap (the bump on the motor itself).
