Re: My Brother printer

Press menu then start mono then 4 times arrow-up button.
Machine will be in maintenance mode.

press 7 then 6 then 3 : This is a power purge mode. Press start mon to start the purge.
If you are outside CAN/US press 0 then 9 afterwards. machine will print a test sheet. You should see all colors. If you miss colors do the power purge again.
If you are from us/can leave the maintance mode by pressing 9 then 9.
Now press ink etc. to run the test print.

If the colors are still missing after three power purges the printhead is clogged and cant be fixed anymore.

I have installed a new ink cartridge and gone through the cleaning process serval times but I can not get anything to print in black. If a document is in all black, all I get is a blank sheet. If I change...

The first thing to check would be your print utility. Make sure that it is aware that there is a black cartridge installed. If you've gone through the cleaning process, try printing a test page and see if that will print the black. If not, it is either a setting in your utility telling it not to print in black and white, or a hardware issue with your printer. I will look up some documentation for your make and model printer to see what else the problem might be. Please advise with any changes when you check the print utility.

Am I able to print on my LC61 with just black ink?

Most printers require the tiniest bit of color to print in black to keep the color jets from drying out.

If your color cartridges are fine, and you're only asking about settings, then, when you have a document positioned to print, left click one in the window you want to print, hold down the CTRL key and press P

You'enter the printer window

Select "Preferences"
Then "Black and White"
then "Print only from black cartridge"

Keeps on saying cannot detect ink

if your Brother's printer is anything like mine, it won't print in any color (or black/white) if any one ink cartridge is empty. I just put any color cartridge I had in the empty slot to force it to print black and white.

Please post your feedback and Vote if the problem resolved as per your satisfaction.

My printer will not print in black. It will use the other colors, but not black. When I try to print a black and white document, it prints in blue.

if u want to print selected document in black than open the document select print go to printer properties select grayscale printing

always print in black
go to printer properties than go to maintenance than go to ink cartridge setting select ink cartridge black only for balck and white printing only.

Hi there, Can I print in Black & White when I ran out one of colour ink catridges??? On Brother website it says that you can. According to their advice the Error message shoud come up on LCD screen...

as long as the color print cartridges remain in the printer you should be able to print in only black and white.
If the error message does not come up you should be able to tell the printer to print in black and white in your page setup or print properties portion when you go to print your page.

(1) go file print or print
(2) a gray box will pop up click on properties
(3) Click color
(4)click gray scale

This should do it for you!
(5) select black print cartridge only

Can't print in black and white

Hi Aaron,

There should be a setting in your PREFERENCES that allow you to set it to black print only. Select it as your default setting so that you don't have to change the settings each time you print.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

The Brother machines require all colors in order to print anything, even just black. You can put a small piece of electrical tape over the clear window on the cartridge and the machine will think it's full.

Blue Toner finishes quicker

I can't imagine where toner could possible go from one of these sort of cartridges except on to your paper, I had a customer once with the same request and I found on their letter head that they printed with it had a single band of yellow across it hence excess yellow use,,,,,, Do your print runs of anything contain dark bands/underlines? I guess check to see if white background in any prints has a blueish tinge to it, or possiblly somehow black is running out and it is printing the blacks by mixing the colours (Check black block and text to see if it is really black not heaps dark blue to ensure black toner is operating)

next I'd be questioning if cartridges where brother ones?
