here is the link to intermatic, usually u take the pieces they give u and hold them up against the wheel and tighten the screw, at whatever time u wish for it to come on or go off, sometimes the trippers are different, this is just a generic answer, if its electronic its different. different brands are different.

SOURCE: timer won't turn off or on by itself

Pull the pin up wait and see if it comes on you will know then. Most do pull up but there are a few that have the pin that has to be shoved in. 90% however do have to be pulled up to set the timer for off and on.

Testimonial: "The problem was trying to decide if the pins up or down turned it on and off. I think I have it figured out now. UP (i think) makes it turn off & on."

We have a free standing Frigidaire flat top stove oven that is electric I decided to use the self cleaning feature on it and the bottom element burnt into My husband removed the bottom element before...

I THINK THE HEATING ELEMENT YOU GOT COULD BE WRONG SIZE. I KNOW MINE WENT OUT WHEN COOKING SOMETHING HOTTER THAN I USUALLY USE LIKE 450 DEGREES, IT BURNT OUT. BY CLEANING OUT YOU'RE OVEN, WHICH REQUIRES REAL HOT TEMPERATURES, IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ON THE RIGHT TRACK. IT BEING OLDER STOVE, A LOWER RATED ELEMENT I WOULD TRY..

We cannot get the oven to work and there is no operating instructions available - can you let us know how to put the fan oven on, apparently it has got something to do with the timer?

The clock has to be set with a time. Any time. When you set the time you will hear a relay operate which will switch the power through to the oven controls. If the clock is faulty so that you cannot set a time, you will not be able to make the bottom oven work.
Look at some of my earlier solutions to see how the clock/timer should be set.

Electric coils do not work

Check the connections on the back of the oven feeding the elements. If good, follow back to control switch and check everything there.

HI The range timer is usually located in the control panel on top of the range. If you suspect the timer is faulty, don't try to fix it yourself. Remove it and take it to a professional service person for testing. Here's how to remove the timer:

Step 1: Remove the back service panel to the control panel and release the spring clips that hold it in position, or remove the retaining screws.

Step 2: Push the timer forward to release it.

Step 3: Remove the electrical lead wires from the timer housing. If, when disassembling the timer, you notice that the electrical wire terminals look burned, remove these leads and buff the leads and the terminal points with fine steel wool. Burned and/or dirty terminals can cause the timer to malfunction, but a good cleaning can solve this problem.

Step 4: Replace the old timer or install a new one of the same size and type, if this is necessary. Connect the new timer the same way the old one was connected.
