Question about Viking Kitchen Ranges

Open Question

I have a viking professional range and hood..The heat lights on the overhead hood do not turn off..I have to unscrew lights for them to turn off.

My wife said she saw a flash above her head as she was cooking on stove and thought it might be a fuse or something shorting out...Everything else works fine( ie fan) ...

SOURCE: Electric Heating Element Not Heating stove

It's not a fuse, but a wire or heating element has burned up. Please TURN OFF the circuit breaker until you repair the problem, or at least until you know what the problem is! You say "in" the stove, so I'm assuming that you mean in the oven. Whichever element it is, whether it's in the oven or on the stovetop, just needs to be removed and checked for continuity with an ohmmeter. Quite frankly, if it IS an element, then you should see a burned-out spot somewhere on it that's pretty obvious. Then you just need to replace the element. If it's a wire, then you will need to repair the wire so that it safely makes contact with the element again. That process is a little more involved than just replacing an element, but let us know what you find. I can describe a wire-repair procedure if need be. ;)

SOURCE: Hotpoint Gas oven doesn't light

Sounds like the oven ignitor is weak.  If everything else is working it must be a bad ignitor.  These are usually easy to replace and can expect to pay $70-$100 for the part.  Check to see if it glows when in bake mode first.  If it does then replace the ignitor.  You can look at the ignitor,  when not on, if it is white-ish then it needs replace or if it doesn't have a full glow, can compare to broil ignitor, then it needs replaced.  Let me know if you have further questions.

Viking model vdsc4874gss small oven works fine large oven element on bottom only gets hot in cleaniong mode, fan comes on when dial is turned to convection but no heat power is on light works

One thing that you can check is make sure that you have 220 volts at the plug. Leave the unit unplugged and check continuity on the burners. You should have continuity on the burners.

FLASH covers a multitude of possibilities. What is the voltage of the blower motor. What you are describing often happens when 220 is wired to a 110 lighting circuit. I would not be running the blower motor although I hope it has inherent built in motor protection. If the voltage is applied higher to light bulbs they become flash bulbs. Florescents can become fire fixtures fast. If you are not an electrician back away from this and disconnect power at your breakers. Do not open up and trouble shoot if you are not qualified so you do not get embarrassed and have a dirt nap. It only takes about 40 vo;ts and a few milliamps cross chess to kill you. Also when ever you turn something on start and keep the habit of using one hand to turn it on and one hand to grab your pants behind you. OK OK or skirt. This prevents a cross chest shock . I bought an older unit Viking Ultra line range hood. I'm cleaning it and wonder how I should go about cleaning the blades of the squirrel cage fans. Thanks. Karen

I took the motor out of the range hood. There is a set screw holding the squirrel cage fan in place which I unscrewed enough to slide the fan part off. I then boiled the part in a deep pan with lots of dish soap. I then brushed away the remaining debris. Avoid using dishwasher detergent which is effective but seems to erode the aluminum.
