If you can't find with a search for st-ef40 diagram or on the Shimano site then it does not exist. Although not identical carefully disassembling the other shifter may give you enough insight.

Sorry, Shimano never intended those shifters to be taken apart and serviced, so they didn't release an exploded view. Here's a link to the orginial EV document. http://bernd.sluka.de/Fahrrad/Shimano/TM/ST-CT90_1995.gif

Parts assembly diagram

Shimano Tourney parts are one of their lower end component groups and as such are not really designed to be serviceable. Shimano uses a system of "controlled obsolescence" so that their components cannot be repaired. they are inexpensive enough to just replace them, and with all of the plastic that they use these days it's not worth the effort when a new derailleur can be had for $30.

Need advice for Shimano ST-7900 nameplate replacement

Don't know if you have an exploded view diagram of the levers . If not you can download from http://techdocs.shimano.com/techdocs/index.jsp

In the road bike drop down list select Dura-Ace, go down to ST-7900 and select document EV-ST-7900-2874. I don't advise you to take mech apart unless you have special tools and bags of experience handling complex mechs. However you will see that name plates are held by single screw which should be no problem.

Shimano Deore LX right hand rear shifter

HERE is Shimano's exploded-view diagram of the shifters, but it really only gives you a ballpark idea of the assembly. You will have to piece the rest together from memory, i suppose. Sorry, i could not find more information for you.

Hope this helps a little,
matt

How to dismantle and re-assemble the lever mechanisms as the levers are slipping when operated. Hopefully they are not worn internally. They are Shimano ST-T400 shifter/brake.

Here's the diagram:http://fish.shimano-eu.com/media/techdocs/content/cycle/EV/bikecomponents/ST/EV-ST-T400-S-1970_v1_m56577569830613258.pdf The lube in them tends to dry out and harden over time and needs to be flushed out with whatever is safe for the parts (cleaner/degreaser) and then relubed with some high quality lubricant. The spray stuff doesn't stay around long enough. Ask your local bike tech what he uses.I used saxophone key oil.
