Some GFI use spark detection and if you have one of those, you need a new gfi. IF not then you have current leakage in the grinder and it is dangerous to use and should be replaced.

SOURCE: Rancilio grinder does not grind fine enough for espresso

After taking the top burr off several times and rescrewing it, I finally was able to exert enough force to get it to turn a couple of extra turns. Evidently there was some oil or coffee gunk (although I could see none) that snagged the bur. Now it appears to work as before.

This is a great, service by the way. Even the process of thinking through the problem so I could post it helped me solve it.

SOURCE: rancilio rocky grinder setting

to get starting point you adjust burrs to touch each other. when they touch each other you have finest grinding, after you hear metal voice you turn back 3 dots and grind only for 1 dose. you check it, if it goes to slow, you go one more back and clean gruinder, THAN you grind 1 dose more. 2 or 3 times and you will get perfect grinding.

SOURCE: Where can I get the grinder replacement for my Rocky Rancilio?

It is really easy to take the burrs apart and clean them. Just a bunch of screws. I suspect you have lots of coffee oils gumming up the works.

Hi There could be a piece broken around the chute where it comes out of the grinder and enters the grounds chamber. There is a rectangular opening in the plastic that can get broken causing the grounds to enter the machine.

Machine short

Two possibilities:

There is leakage in the internal wiring to the safety ground OR the unit is generating a transient current in the ground that trips the GFI. This is NOT uncommon for some motor driven appliances.

AS A test, put a ground isolator (3 wire to 2 wire plug adapter) on the cord before plugging in.

IF that seems to prevent the trips, then use an OHMMETER to test the resistance from each of the power wires to the Ground pin. It should be near infinite resistance. IF NOT, then there is leakage in the unit, PROBABLY contamination that is causing the electrical leakage current and the unit should be serviced.

Should the ground isolator appear to fix the problem, this means that this device CANNOT be operated from that type GFI due to transients it creates. You can try a new GFI that might be less sensitive OR put a line filter in the power cord.

I disassembled the grinding blades and put it back together but now I can not get a find grind

HI
When you reassemble the removable burr assembly, you first must make sure that there are no grinds left in the main body's threads. These grinds will prevent the burrs from going any farther down. The burrs must touch and then back off to zero the grinder. Don't ever leave them touching though.

I just got a used Rocky grinder. It works great but I read about

the grinding itself makes noise. if you have noise in empty spinning than you should consider changing bearings( 2 of them) in the motor.
during opening grinder pay attention to lower holder of burr which spins together with axis, try to be gentle with that part.
