Question about Heating & Cooling
Sounds like the thermostat is either defective or has a bad connection. If you are familiar with using a multimeter (volt-ohm-current meter), it would be the device to use to trouble-shoot this problem. MAKE SURE THE HEATER IS UNPLUGGED!!!
With the meter set on Ohms, and the heater set on auto, set the heater to its lowest temperature setting. You want to see no resistance (close to zeor Ohms) when check across the thermostat (the temperature knob mounts on it). If you see high or infinite resistance, the thermostat's open and therefore defective. If the thermostat checks out OK, continue checking with the meter. You should have about zero Ohms between the hot pin on the power plug (the narrower one in N. America) and the heater motor lead. If it's open (high or infinite resistance), keep the one meter lead on the power plug and trace back, checking each connection until you find the defective one. Don't rule out a broken wire, maybe inside the insulation (but unlikely).
