Question about Dryers

The front drum felt went bad and from what I have found is that you have to purchase the entire drum assembly to repair this, anyone know of a fix or felt that can be purchased to repair this unit?

The opening on the drum is 24 1/2 OD

It could be the rear bearing ( easy to replace). I would check the idler pulley and blower wheel assembly also. Here is a link that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/dryernoisyge.html
There are also several other videos that cover the idler pulley and front bearing assembly.

Making a lot of noise!!! It dries just fine but is so noisy no matter what cycle I use. Is it a balance or a bearing problem? I'd like to repair it myself. It is 9 years old.

It depends on the type of sound. It could be felt pads going bad or the bearings. The felt pads are fairly easy to change as they are in the front under the drum and you just need to get the front off and replace them. The bearing assembly is a different story. You need to take the front and the top off (or sometimes the the top will tilt back on hinges) to access the drum you will have to remove your drum to get the bearing assembly off. The other problem could also be the pulleys underneath the dryer which can usually be accessed through a rear panel. I recommend running the dryer and listening really hard for where the sounds are coming from, you may have one of the problems you may have all of them.

Whirlpool duet dryer felt seal replacement

The drum may to be removed to install the new felt gasket but the old drum can then be reinstalled. The felt gasket seals the joint where the drum rotates at the inside back panel. It is likely that the inside back panel can be removed when the dryer is placed front-down and the outside back panel is removed. In that case the drum does not have to come out.

Access the drum to replace felt

To access the drum two screws need to be removed from the inside of the door. The screws are on top of the opening and hold the top of the dryer closed. Then you simply lift the top and slide it to the left to remove it, thus revealing full access to the top of the drum. Then two screws (left and right) need to be removed in order to remove the entire front of the dryer. Once the front is removed the drum can also be removed but for the purpose of replacing the felt removal of the drum is not neccessary. It should be noted that the felt sits only around the bottom of the drum and covers just over half of the circumferance of the drum. The felt should be position in around the opening of the inside part of the door. When replacing the front cover the drum will fit snuggly up against the felt. Replace screws, top and door screws and walla...fixed!

My clothes are getting caught in my dryer.

I am having this same problem with my GE dryer. I found a post on fixitnow.com from a guy that has repaired these for years. He says it is the rear drum bearing. Looks like a pretty easy fix, I am going to try to do it myself. If you try this, I have also read that you should spend the extra $10 to go ahead and replace the drums front felt glide kit.

Kenmore front loading HE3 makes knocking sounds during spin cycle

Ours started knocking several months ago and then progressed to a high pitched sound when in the spin cycle. I manually turned the drum and heard and felt a bearing roughness. I lifted the drum assembly and felt a fair amount of play, which I think the initial knocking noise came from. On the sears web site a new rear drum mount cost 293.00. Today we went and bought a LG model wm2455hw at Home depot, on sale until 2/20/08. I couldn't see paying to repair a machine that only lasted four years.

there is uaually a rubber or composite gasket that fits inside the dryer drum with the front cover in place. the "rollers" as you call it is just pieces of felt glued to theexternal drum and front face and are the drum bearings. check appliance repair parts for the proper gasket and how to mount it to your front panel.
