i am copying my answer to similar question on this forum: unfortunatly it did not show on general display. try this procedure first, switch off the machine and remove cord from the wall and leave for few minutes, plug it back to the wall, hold button 47 and then switch machine on holding button 47 for next about 20sec. release button 47, leave for 20sec, switch machine off, wait agin 20sec, switch machne on - if it not reset itself correctly, then go to the pfaff sitehttp://www.pfaff.com/en-US/ select your country and then on right hand up the top, from "suport and updates" select "machine support" then follow to your exact model, download software and firmware upgrades and follow instructions to update your software on the machine. if machine still fail to perform, unfortunately seafrch for closest repair shop as this will indicate computer hardware failure...

If you find that it is not possible to program the computer although it is not filled up, the machine must be switched off. Press key 47 "Correction GIL" after about 30 seconds, hold it down and switch the machine on again by actuating main switch 9. Release button 47. By means of this procedure the contents of both the M- and P-memory has been fully erased. Required program sequences and patterns must be entered once more.

keep pressing key 47 while you turn off and still during 30 seconds and through power on

Won't change stitch anymore, turn dial, nothing changes, down to straight stitch only

Most likely some computer software or hardware is malfunctioning. You could try to take it for service, but since a new machine can be purchased for less than $100, it may be more prudent to use it as a straight-stitch-only machine until you can afford to replace it.

Why straight stitch will not work but zigzag and herringbone stitches work on my machine.

it sounds like the machine needs to be checked at a sewing
machine shop to see what's wrong with the cam's or gear
that makes the stitches

I have an old Kenmore sewing machine that belonged to my mother...not sure when she bought it. The model # is 17891. The machine will not stitch anything but straight stitch....any suggestions?

If you have a machine that does several patterns and stitches but only stitches straight stitch no matter what you select, you need to change the needle first, if that does not work then the mahine needs to be retimed.

I can not figure out how to set a straight stitch. I don't want a zig zag or a decorative stitch. How do i set my machine to do this?

First, make sure you select the straight stitch setting on the round dial. It is the one that has the dashed lines, looking like the stitch itself. Then, you may also want to be sure that the stitch WIDTH (dial with the picture that looks like a straight line gradually turning into a zig-zag) to the lowest setting, which is generally 0. With some machines, even after selecting a straight stitch setting, moving the stitch width can change needle position. Sometimes it will initiate the zig zag, other times it will move needle position left to right. Does that fix it?

Sewing machine straight stitch is not straight

It sounds like it is making a blind stitch, does it look something like this? -----v-----v-----v-----v-----v If so it might be on the blind stitch setting instead of the straight stitch! ;-)
