Whirlpool SC8720EDB cooktop stove independent vent switch is not starting downdraft exhaust fan, but the exhaust fan works fine when left side burners were turned on

Can you get to the switch terminals and try jumping them out with a piece of insulated wire? That would tell you if the switch is defective (my suspicion). Please be careful not to touch any live terminals - only the wire insulation you use for the jumper.

I have a MH6150XMQ Whirlpool Micro and the light comes on with the fan but it does not heat nor does the turntable rotate. The turntable is turned on via the front push button. How can I troubleshoot this...

While the turntable can be prevented from running while cooking if you turn it off with the keypad, that's probably not relevant here.

This problem is usually caused by either a bad upper door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

My help file on door switches is here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

mini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgdee77f7.jpgAt our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Jenn-Air model svd48600. Gas stove top, electric oven. Why would the exhaust fan turn itself on whe either of the left burners is lit.

The switch for the optional grill attachment is activating...pull the tray/pan on the left side that holds the two burner grates toward the front...it should shut off. To correct the problem permanently, you'll need to adjust the position of the switch. The switch gets lose over time and slides on its mount until it gets out of range. The purpose of the switch is to activate the blower continuously when using the optional grill accessory. When you remove the left-side grates and the tray/pan the grates set in...you'll notice a protruding piece of metal on the front of tray/pan that fits into a hole in the cavity where the tray sits. Inside that hole is the switch that is out of position. Getting at the switch to adjust its position is not difficult, but you need to remove the upper front panel...KLS

Advantium 120 - Panel is dead, exhaust fan and lights working.

Chances are you have a bad primary interlock (upper door switch) or a loose or damaged door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

We have the service / repair manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

It will give you safety info, step by step help in disassembly, troubleshooting tips, and part numbers.

Most computers will open this document automatically, but you may need the free Adobe Reader

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Jenn air range, model CVG4280B, repair, ignitor problem. Ignitors will not work on any burner. Burners can be lit manually. Power is available at the electical box. Fan comes on when either burner turned...

I do not know the cause BUT the fan behavior (on for left burners, off for right burners) is by design. The high-speed fan has two switches; 1) the primary switch visible centered between top two knobs, 2) secondary switches integrated with left burner knobs.

Exhaust fan comes on when burner turned on

The left side is set for your grill. There is apparently a switch under the left side top / front of the cooktop. The aeration tray has a prong on one end that fits into a hole in the front end of the burner basin and activates the switch which stops the fan from coming on when using the burners and allows the fan to run when using the grill. Try switching sides with the aeration trays as one might make better contact than the other.
