It has to be on in order for your computer to see.
Read the user guide to see if there is a reset button or process. http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=213&CatName=Leitores+MP3&prodID=18615&prodName=ZEN+MX

In Windows, some background processes can cause issues for other programs and processes. These conflicts can prevent applications such as iTunes and QuickTime Player from working correctly, opening, or even installing. You might be able to resolve these conflicts by disabling some items using the System Configuration Utility (MSCONFIG) in Windows XP. This utility is not included with Windows 2000.
Important: Disabling third-party System Services and Startup Items can prevent some software or OEM hardware on your computer from working correctly. For example, this can affect the CD/DVD control buttons on portable computers or prevent wireless keyboards and mice from functioning. If you are already using the Selective Startup option in Windows (see step 4 below), you will need to keep track of which items you disable and re-enable so after performing this troubleshooting, you can get your computer back to the way it was. Selecting Normal Startup may enable items that you were not using, and could cause issues.
  1. On the Start menu, click Run. A Run window (command prompt) appears.
  2. Type msconfig in the Open field and click OK. The System Configuration Utility opens.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. Select the "Selective Startup" option.
  5. Deselect the "Load Startup Items" checkbox. 302538_1.jpg
  6. Click the Startup tab.
  7. Select the "iTunesHelper" and "qttask" checkboxes in the list. 302538_2.jpg
  8. Click the Services tab.
  9. Make sure that "Hide All Microsoft Services" is selected.
  10. Click Disable All. 302538_3.jpg
Note: If you are troubleshooting an iPhone related issue, select the "Apple Mobile Device Support" checkbox.

  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Restart.
  13. After restarting (and logging in to Windows), a window appears confirming that "You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts." Click OK. The System Configuration Utility appears. Do not click OK here as this will prompt you to restart again. First try to reproduce the issue you were having.
If following these steps resolves the issue, you may want to use the System Configuration Utility to turn on the third-party System Services and Startup Items one or a few at a time (restarting your computer after turning on the item or items) to identify which System Service or Startup Item is causing the conflict. You can turn all of them back on by selecting the Normal Startup option under the General tab of the System Configuration Utility window, but please note that this may cause the issue to recur.

Hitachi touro desk dx3 1tb drops signal from computer continuously

USB ports were brought about in an attempt to standardize how we plug devices into a computer. Computer mice, keyboards, digital cameras, and many other electronic devices now utilize an USB port connection. A port that is not functioning as expected can be mission critical, or an infuriating annoyance at the least. A port that continuously turns off and on may not be broken, this maybe a "Power Management" feature of the device. USB ports can hibernate just as a computer or laptop do. If it's dozing off is not in your best interest, you can disable this feature.

Open "Start Menu", select "Settings", then menu item "Control Panel." In "Control Panel" window click open the "System" icon. When the "System Properties" box opens, select the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Device Manager" button. When "Device Manager" opens, click the at "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" to expand it. Right-click the first "USB Root Hub" item and select "Properties" from the menu. Select the "Power Management" tab. Clear the checkmark from Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Click "OK." Repeat these steps for all the "USB Root Hubs."

I have an HP 3210 printer and Windows XP. Whenever I start my PC I get a message from Document Viewer asking me to install it from a removable disk. I can't find the disk.

Diagnostic startupDiagnostic startup enables Windows to determine the basic device drivers and software to load when you start Windows. When you use this method, the system temporarily disables Microsoft services such as Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, and Error Reporting. Also, you permanently delete all restore points for the System Restore utility.

Note Do not use this method if you want to save your restore points for System Restore or if you must use a Microsoft service to test a problem.

To perform a diagnostic startup, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
  2. On the General tab, click Diagnostic Startup, and then click OK.
  3. Restart your computer.
If the problem does not occur, use Selective startup mode to try to find the problem by turning individual services and startup programs on or off. Selective startupSelective startup enables you to select the files and the settings that you want the computer to load when you restart the computer. Select from the following options:
  • Process System.ini File
  • Process Win.ini file
  • Load System Services
  • Load Startup Items
By default, no options are selected. The following actions apply to these options:
  • When you select the check box, the configuration file is processed when you restart the computer.
  • When you clear the check box, the configuration file is not processed when you restart the computer.
  • When the check box is selected, and you cannot select the check box because it appears dimmed, some items are still loading from that configuration file when you restart the computer.
  • When the check box is not selected, and you cannot select the check box because it appears dimmed, the configuration file is not present on the computer.
  • You cannot change the Use Original BOOT.INI option button.
Note When you clear the Load System Services check box, you disable Microsoft services such as Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, and Error Reporting. You also permanently delete all restore points for the System Restore utility. Do not clear this check box if you want to keep your restore points for System Restore, or if you have to use a Microsoft service to test a problem.

To perform a selective startup, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
  2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
  3. Select or clear the available settings.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 until you find the problem.

Hello and thank you for reading, My computer won't stop rebooting itself regardless of what hard drive I plug in, it gives me the "Windows didn't start ... please use the up and down keys to choose...

When you say "regardless of what hard drive I plug in" worries me.

If you didn't install windows on the hard drive you're using while it was in your computer it won't work. Windows needs to see all devices as it is installed.

My best guess for you is to install windows again onto a hard drive.

Failing that you could download one of the linux O/S, say UBUNTU, and that will load onto your pc without installing so you can look at the data on the HDD's.

Finally there's the ultimate boot for windows CD which loads a windows shell onto your PC without installing and provides loads of diagnostic tools.

Both the last two items are freely available to download at the end of a GOOGLE.

did you connect the printer before installing the drivers ????
Follow the instillation back to the part where it says connect your device.. make sure its on and plugged in the usb port.. then.

if so

for xp - winserver..
  • click start
  • right click computer
  • click hardware tab
  • click device manager
  • right click on any item in the box that appears and click scan for hard ware changes
for vista - win 7
  • click start
  • right click computer
  • click device manager
  • right click on any items and select scan for hardware changes..
that should detect your device and install the drivers for you.. good luck.

Did you get a disk with it to load the drivers? It will not work unless the drivers are loaded. Also, on USB items you must load the drivers first, then plug it in, otherwise it will not work and you'll have to reload, that includes USB Printers, cameras, keyboards, etc..

Pls rate this solution.

Windows no longer recognises the usb

Hi Janwyatt
Lets try this. Unplug all of your USB devices from the computer (if keyboard and mouse are USB leave them in). Turn the PC off completely. Give it about 30 seconds and turn the PC back on. Once you are completely in windows, plug one of your USB devices back in. Does Windows inidcate that you plugged something in? Does it recognize what it is? If it does recognize the device, then plug your other items in one at a time - waiting till each item is completely recognized before plugging in the next one. Let me know how you do.
