Electric reel will not retrieve, how is this fixed?

This electric fishing reel will not start retrieving, when I push the red on/off button. The battery is OK, the select button setting is set at the correct distance to the water and the line is out at least 12 meters. Why does it not it start? Please give me an exact description on how to get it to work properly. Bernt Ersson email: bernt at shoedoc.se

I have been asked to add more information regarding this matter. The point is that this is the way it is as described. I would like a detailed description on how this reel works. The manual that I have from the manufacturer does not give an answer how to work it, I am doing it the way it is described. Maybe you can give me the contact adress to Fladen customer service in Sweden? Maybe the reel needs repair?

SOURCE: I do not know how to thread line through reel

put spool of string on a pencil and have someone hold it, now snake the string through the eyes of the pole and attach it to the reel, on the small shaft in the middle, then just reel your pole in untill you reach YOUR limit of string..

SOURCE: Cannot open Shakespeare Synergy Steele 2001s fishing reel

alright man......i had the same problem. it just takes a little bit of elbow grease, bot it does twist open, it's just harder than hell to get it to twist off. I took a towel and laid it over the reel, and lightly tapped on it with a hammer to loosen it up a bit.

What causes the fishing reel to skip teeth when retrieving line?

I went fishing with a commercial fisherman. I had a freshwater spinning reel and we were fishing for mackerel and Pollack. He told me pulling fish upwards from the bottom would damage the teeth on the retrieve because a spinning reel is designed to pull fish towards you at an angle, whereas in boat fishing you are hauling from below. After bringing up 3 lots of line with 4 to 6 mackerel on feathers, the teeth started to skip. He said "I did tell you". I wasn't too worried as it was a very cheap reel. The next week I bought a Penn 10 which was what he recommended.

Basically you have stripped the ends of the teeth. Depending on the quality of the reel, you may be able to get spares, or otherwise you upgrade.

use 10# test line or heavier. use 3\8 oz lure or heavier. set magnetic control to "5". tighten small silver knob under the reel handle down until the spool will not turn when you push the thumb bar. loosen the same silver knob while you have the thumb bar pushed and adjust the knob tension so that the spool stops turning when the bait hits the ground. this is basic tuning for any baitcasting reel.

I need directions on how to reel in a fish

The key is to watch the "fish mood"... watch for a "Yellow Heart" on the top of the screen as you reel in, this means a fish is lured by your bait... When you see this, stop reeling with the "A" button and begin using the control pad... up or down will just bounce the bait... it's a little counter-intuitive to "real" fishing, but if you stop reeling when you see this "Yellow Heart" and simply wait for the fish to swim around your bait, then bounce the bait with the up or down control buttons, the fish will usually take the bait. Then simply reel them in being careful not to reel too fast... using the "A" button, don't let the meter go to high or too low... simply let off the "A" button if the meter gets to high or low... eventually you'll be able to reel them in by pressing and releasing the "A" button. Likewise with the "yellow heart", also watch for a "red exclamation", this indicates the fish is trying to bite the bait. Use the same method simply waiting for the fish. If you never see either of the two fish moods (yellow heart or red exclamation), then you'll need to either change direction of your throws, or change bait. I've conquered a few levels with this method after many hours of not even a bite.

Think it may be a line tension problem. every

Wow, I can't believe that. That reel is very simple and shouldn't do that. I would guess that it's a problem with the line. Usually a real like that comes with line. Sometimes line is bad and it's very twisted due to being the last on the spool before it's put on your reel. I would suggest you buy some quality line, like Trilene or Stren and use about 6 lb test. I like the limp kind (read the box and it will tell you what type you are buying). Limp line means fewer twisting/tangling problems. Good luck. Alley

I have a shakespeare sigma fishing reel that tangles up when I cast it, any solutions

The line needs to installed on the reel as it is on the new spool when purchased. Also check spool drag. If it is a spinning reel it is important to install the string correctly and use a quality brand of string.
