SOURCE: will a bad vss cause

yes this will cause issues with the transmission. This also controls shift points depending on the speed of the vehicle and accelerator angle.

My 93' corolla's check engine light comes on sporadically. i used the wire method to check what the problem was and i got problem code 42. i cant find anything on this, nor does it actually explain...

There are 2 different listings for a VSS for that model Corolla - one for the 1.6 3 speed automatic, and another for 1.6 manual and all 1.8 applications. It appears to be located on the top rear side of the transaxle case.
When the light comes on, does the speedometer act strangely?

I have a 2009 Corolla XRS with 26,000miles. The check engine light just came on, the stability control mode was turned off and can't turn it back on, and car has lost power and doesn't shift well....

probably it will be the vss ( vehicle speed sensor ) problem its located on the flywheel
thats why the computer cannot detect speed in right measures and thats why it cannot control the stability control system because it can`t read the car`s (wheels) speed in right manners so it halt the both systems ( the fuel injection calculating pattern and rotation of wheels )
its common thing easy to fix and reset the computer allowing the check light to be off

2002 Sunfire TCC Solenoid replacement

hi..the transaxle converter clutch . tcc. uses a solenoid -operated valve located in the automatic transaxle to mechanically couple the engine flywheel to the output shaft of the transmission through the torque converter.that reduces the slippage loss in the converter.reducing emissions.but check the vss first.which is called the vehicle speed sensor.they both work together .if the vss is not working right it wont call on the tcc.

1999 Saturn sl speed sensor

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is located in the differential area of the transaxle. Also, to replace it should be fairly simple. I wish I could give a better answer exactly where it is at, but I have you the answer straight out of the Haynes manual.

To replace the VSS, disconnect the electrical connector from the VSS. Then remove the retaining bolt and lift the VSS from the Transaxle or simply unscrew the VSS. Installation is the reverse of removal.
