How do i unlock brake on a Poulan wildthing 2375 chainsaw

First, stop your engine. Check to make sure that the chain brake isn't engaged. The chain brake can activate automatically by a sudden movement or impact. You can disengage the chain brake by pulling the chain brake hand guard back against the front handle and releasing slowly. If the chain brake is disengaged and the chain does not turn; turn off the saw, then check the drive links on the chain, the bar groove and the sprocket nose on the bar. A burr on the drive links will bind the chain in the bar. If the bar has been pinched, the chain will not pass freely through the groove. If a sliver of wood has gotten into the sprocket nose, it will not turn at all. Also, look at the drive sprocket on the saw itself to see if it has a groove worn into it. A drive sprocket with a groove worn into it will damage the chain.

With the cove off you should be able to turn the sprocket easily, if not the brake is on, grab the hand guard and pull it fully back toward the rear of the saw until the brake clicks and the drum can be turned.

Tryed to put on a chain cant get it back togather right

Completely loosen the chain tensioner. When looking at the saw from the sprocket side(bar to the right) the chain WILL travel clockwise. Fit the chain on the bar.(ensure that the chain travels in collation with the sprocket at the end of the bar if equipped). When looking at the saw from the sprocket side(bar to the right) the chain WILL travel clockwise. With the chain still in the bar, fit the 5 or so links in the sprocket on the powerhead, engage the bar with the bar nuts, then lastly engage the chain in the tensioner. Place the sprocket cover and nuts. Tighten nuts then loosen about .5 turn. Adjust chain tensioner. Retighten nuts. See that tightening the nuts made your chain tighter, loosen nuts readjust chain, tighten nuts. With gloves on and the chain brake disengaged please ensure the chain travels around the bar. Put on your chaps and start cutting.

I cannot get the back cover on my chainsaw,,how do i disengage the brake with the cover off??????????sincerely yours,,Jeff Speck

There is a number of ways to do this, either remove the clutch and sprocket, this will allow the brake to go back onto the saw, you can then use the hand guard as normal to load the brake, or you can remove the hand guard from the saw, clamp the brake in a vice, be careful not to damage the cover, now use the hand guard as a tool to fit into the brake and load it, it will take a far amount of force to load the brake as there is a large compression spring inside.

How do remove sprocket small one tryed not moving

Lock the bike in gear so the sprocket won't turn. Remember that the locknut is a left-hand thread and may have locktite on. If the sprocket still turns then get a friend to hold the drivechain tight and wrap it around the sprocket, this should "jam" the sprocket and not allow it to move.

When I disengage my chain brake to stop the chain it shuts the chain saw off rather than let it idle until I need to engage the chain again.

This is probably an issue with either the clutch spring, or the sprocket bearing, if there is any drag from either of the components it will drag the engine down to a stop when the brake is applied, check the clutc spring if you can pull the shoes out by hand the spring has streched and will require replacment, turn the sprocket around manually, if there is any resistense ( drag on the crank ) then grease the sprocket bearing.

Chain does not rotate around bar. Chain brake seems to engage/disengage as intended.

With a gloved hand can you manually pull the chain around the bar? if not the chainbrake is still engaged, pull the hand guard fully back to the top handle until you hear the click from the brake mechanism, if the chain does pull around manually then there is a problem with either the cluch or the sprocket, remove the side cover, check the clutch for damage, remove the drive sprocket and check the drive teath are not badly worn allowing the chain to slip within it, replace parts as required.

I have started my McCulloch 338 chainsaw without any problem, but the chain will not move on the chainguide, when throttled up. I have tried to move the chain by hand ( after stopping the machine !!!) but...

The chain may have come off the sprocket.
There are 2 nuts about an inch apart down just past the bar which hold it in place.
Remove the 2 nuts, take off the cover which they hold in place and the bar and chain will loosen.
Check that the teeth on the inside of the chain are on the sprocket. Pull the chain tight against the sprocket and move it. Check that the sprocket turns. With the chain set in the sprocket replace the bar, chain and cover and try turning it again by hand. If it doesn't turn don't try to start the saw as you'll do damage.

If the chain was on properly and it still won't turn the clutch may be burned out. However the fact that you couldn't turn it by hand suggests that the chain was off the sprocket.

Have a Stihl 310 chainsaw and the sprocket will not spin freely. Can't turn it by hand, so I removed the e-clip but can't get the sprocket to come off. Any suggestions

Grasp the forward most upper handle and pull it aft. I t may require some additional force at the rear extreme when you disengage and latch the chain brake.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Thank you for using FixYa and Good Luck. HTH
