Check your propane tanks (are they full?), make sure the valve is on, then check to make sure gas is making its way to the hot water tank, if the pilot lights but won't stay lit your flame sensor is faulty.

Why won't the burners light even when I smell gas and hear igniter clicking?

Bill, two things possibly going on here that are common with an aging grill. First you need to turn off the fuel tank and set it aside. you mention that a clicking can be heard when pushing the igniter button which usually indicates good battery but if you have never changed it you may want to just as a good measure. Unscrew the bottom and you should find AA or AAA battery behind it. Now with battery good and the igniter generating a fast load clicking sound you want to get down and follow the wire that runs from the the back side of the igniter push button down inside and usually under the burner tubes ending out at one end of each burner. What happens when you press the igniter switch is, an electrical current is sent down the wire and when it reaches the end the current jumps to the closest metal it can find creating a spark.so you need to insure that the end of the wire is close to where the flame is generated but not so close that that you cant see a spark. Make sure the end of the wire is bare and clean as is the area on the burner where it arcs Now do this to all for burners. Turn all the knobs on the grill off and connect the tank. Make sure the lid is open now, and slowly open the valve on the tank. I say slowly like a ten count from close to full open. what can happen if you crank the tank valve open too quickly or with the grills valves open a vapor-lock effect can be created greatly reducing the flow of fuel from the tank. Iv'e seen many of the uninformed return 1/2 full tanks due to this problem. If you notice week flame or no flame but smell gas ALWAYS SHUT OFF VALVE ON TANK IMMEDIATELY KEEP LID OPEN AND LET THE AREA VENT BEFORE TRYING AGAIN lest you be the one being barbecued. Good Luck

Full tank, igniter clicks, i hear the flam come on but it wont light. What to do?

I am not sure which flame you hear light. The pilot light flame or the burner flame? In any event, the burner and the pilot assembly need to be cleaned. Insects love to build nest in these types of heaters, when they're not in use. When that happens, the pilot and/or the burner get's clogged.

A shop vac with a hose and brush attachment work well in cleaning the heater parts. Canned compressed air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) does well in blowing out the pilot tip and around the entire pilot assembly.

Be sure to turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose and remove the tank, before attempting to clean the unit. When you replace the tank and reconnect the hose, be sure to open the gas tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion slow).

Hope this helps you solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Low gas pressure even with fresh tanks.Could the regulator be the problem?

Yes, the regulator is the problem, but not exactly the way you may think.
To solve the problem, turn OFF the tank valve and disconnect the grill hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Now, unlike how you turned the fresh tank ON, this time turn it ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (slow motion, slow). Once the valve is full open, light the burner farthest away from the tank first and turn it to HIGH. Has the flame height returned to normal? If so, light the remaining burners the same way. Do all the flame heights on High, look correct. If so, you solved the problem. If not, repeat the full procedure over again.

If after the second attempt, the flame heights are still low, you'll need to replace the grill's hose/regulator assembly. You can purchase one at any home center or hardware store that sells gas grills and accessories. Take your old one with you for comparison purposes.

Hope this helped you solve the problem and Happy Easter!

We have a spirit grill with 3 burners. I can light the grill, but burners 1 & 2 don't have a nice line of blue flame like burner 3. Burner 2 is especially bad with orange flames on the right and left...

Are you sure there's adequate gas in the tan? If so do the following:

Disconnect the LP tank from the grill hose. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect to the tank. Open the tank valve VERY,VERY SLOWLY, until it is full open. Light your burners individually and turn to highest flame setting, before lighting the next burner and so on.

If that solved your problem GREAT. Remember to turn the tank on that way in the future.
If it didn't you'll need to remove the burners and clean each one.

Hope this helped to get you back up and grilling again.

I replaced the burners under the grill and the gas is is flowing with a very small flame but i cant get it to have a large flame. what can i do?

Easy solution. Turn off your propane grill tank. Disconnect the hose from the tank, Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose. Now, turn the tank vale on very, very slowly, until it full open. Then light each burner one at a time. Turn the flames to high. The burner flame height should have returned to normal.

Remember to turn the tank on very, very slowly each time after turning the tank off.

Happy Grilling!

Propane convection heater won't maintain full flame

Seems like the valve is not opening up fully or the adjustment is out of adjustment. Try adjusting the flame.

Flame not hot

If the propane tank is full, it could be the pressure regulator. Some regulators have an adjustment screw on the top.
If it's REALLY cold outside, the propane may not be evaporating fast enough to keep the pressure up. Also on a cold or windy day, heat is drawn away from the grill very quickly, and it may be difficult to keep the temperature up inside.

Good luck!
