If you need a longer seat post go to trift stores and dumps and find an old exercise bike. The seat post off of that would be the longest around.

SOURCE: is it possible to fix

A ggod welder should be able to fix the cracked frame. Be sure the frame is straight. Sounds like a headpost crack, very common a BMX.

Hello I was needing help with a BMX bike serial number that I purchased at a estate sale. Serial number is K98E003478 can you help me with identifying the bike please? No decals on bike!

Sure, I'll identify it with a high degree of certainty. It's likely a stolen bike. If not then someone did a lousy repaint job. Either way it does not matter what it is, because any value of a particular brand is gone, and parts are pretty much universal.

Purchased bike. stickersays bmx pro 1974 trying to use serial # to see if this is really a bmx pro 1974

As far as I know "BMX Pro" is not a brand/model. Whatever the brand is, the serial number is often not useful. Contact the manufacturer (name on the head tube where the fork goes through the frame.

Is this bike to big for a 10 year old who is about 4'10 and weighs about 90-95 lbs?

I assume you want to get the right size for a Christmas present. Here's a suggestion. Tell him you need to measure him for pant. Have him straddle a broom handle that you hold horizontally. He should stand flat footed and the broom handle should be as high as you can raise it without pushing hard against him. If the end of the handle is touching the wall, make a pencil mark on the wall where it touches the wall. Then measure the distance of that mark from the floor. That measurement should be about the same as the distance from the bike's top-tube (the part of the bike frame between the seat and the handle-bars) and the ground. Essentially, you are measuring to see if the boy can straddle the top-tube of the bike with his feet flat on the ground. If he is growing fast, you might figure he can be a bit on his toes to straddle the top-tube. A realistic max height would be to straddle that tube with one foot flat and the other on his toes. Good luck!

Bmx serial number help

If the head badge indicating the brand and the decals indicating model are gone it's either repainted or stolen. The serial number alone is little help, but may be a Mongoose ("Google bike serial number cho"). If you are really concerned try going to a bmx site and post detailed pics, but it's not very important. Parts for bikes are universal, and a bike without any ID on it is worth much, much less. I am wondering where I can order a back wheel for the mongoose 20 inch outer limit boys bike. Accidently got run over and is very bent. Thank you deb

Any Mongoose dealer or bicycle shop should be able to handle that or just web search for a 20" BMX wheel. It doesn't appear to be unique.

Where does it go

It goes inside the headset or head-tube, either on top or the bottom of the headset. The headset is the part of the frame where the handlebar neck fits into.

When was the first BMX bike invented?

Hard to put an exact date on it because BMX evolved from kid's mimmicking their motocross heroes on dirt hills using 20" bikes (typically Schwinn Stingrays).

The first bicycle made specifically to mimmick the motocross riders that early BMX riders were mimmicking was the Yamaha Moto-Bike in 1973.

BMX became "official" in 1974 when George E. Esser founded the NBL, which officially sanctioned BMX races.

The first official BMX bike (bike made specifically for the sport of BMX), with the frame design as we know it today, was in late 1974 with the introduction of the Redline Squareback.

How are bikes measured?

Bikes can be measured in a few ways. The most common measurement is the tire size. For instance if you see a listing for a 20" mongoose bmx bike it means the tires are 20". another way they are measured is the height from the ground to the seat and the length from front of frame to back without parts on it.
