yw,most people think that the only way to ensure they get the right part is to order original equipment, when there are cheaper ways to go about it,especially with carbs.

First make the carburetor is your problem by adding a little fuel in carburetor throat and cranking. If the engine starts for a short time then most likely the carburetor but it doesn't then there is another problem.

Once you determine that the carburetor is the source of the starting problem. An good ultrasonic cleaning of the carburetor, replacement of the gaskets and diaphragms, and adjustment of the metering lever and fuel mixtures should get you running again.

SOURCE: I have a broken primer bulb for an Echo CS-3400

You should be able to get to it if you just take off the cover that surrounds it. If you do not yet have a bulb purchased, I would reccomend trying the site I have below. I have also put the part number you will need to enter in the 'Search' box on the site to get the right bulb.

Make sure the fuel filter is indeed attached to the fuel line in the tank and pushed down to the bottom of the tank.

SOURCE: Chainsaw starts fine, but dies mid cut?

Immediately after saw quits, while everything is still hot. Sometimes ignition modules quit working when hot.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You don’t have to bend up the electrode.

Loosen fuel cap when it starts to die, If that fixes it it has a fuel vent problem.

If you did nothing to the carburetor adjustments, are using a fresh (3 months or less) fuel mix with the same oil/fuel ratio, and are operating at the same elevation there is a reason your saw is acting up.
It sounds as though there may be a fuel delivery problem. Check the fuel filter on the free end of a hose in fuel tank (manufacturer recommends an annual replacement). Check all fuel delivery lines especially at fittings and bends for cracks and holes. If those are good then the likely cause is internal parts of the carburetor. HTH

Try rotating the "H" adjustment CCW a small amount.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com
http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20carb%20tune.htm
CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.

There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full – may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too. HTH

Brand new Echo cs-400 chain saw: The chain spins fast on idle. Should'nt the chain be stationary on idle?

The manual is available here:

http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/ECHO/CS-400-_E

The idle speed of the negine may be too high.
Page 26 of the manual gives instructions for adjusting the speed with the "T" screw on the carburettor.

Idle to high

Make sure the carburetor was re-installed correctly as any air leak between the carburetor and cylinder will cause high engine speeds but almost no power. It can also scuff the piston/ring(s) and cylinder due to very lean lubrication from the fuel. Hope this helps!

What are the adjustments for the high and low mixture screws on the carbureator? the carbureator is from an echo 500vl chainsaw.

Echo thinks your actual model number is CS-550EVL. Page 14 lists the starting points for carburetor adjustment here:
http://www.echo-usa.com/pdf/documentation/CS550evle_010186.pdf
Additional manuals for you saw can be found here:
EchoUSA
http://www.echo-usa.com/documentation.asp
More choices can be found by typing CS in the model: window then clicking “Search”.

Once initialized this is the best procedure I have found.
