All cables are not created equal. The new cable simply does not meet the requirements of your system. That is so if the cable is placed exactly in the same position as the older cable and attached the same way. Just why that is so is probably an engineering question related to the specifications of the two cables. (Some cabling is shielded, reducing the electromagnetic field that may be generated around a cable. Historically, that field could distort monitor screens.)
