There is not much you can do with hard water as it is the minerals in the water that cause the problem
it is cheaper to let the washer heat the water as it only heats what it wants
Hard water comes from bores as most town water is put through osmosis filters that remove the minerals and produce the soft water
If you have a bore supply the seriously consider fitting a osmosis filter before the house as it will fix all sorts of problems found in the shower, hot water system , septic/sewerage and general health of the people in the house.
The initial cost will be outweighed by the cost savings from detergents and heating

Well how much water does the dishwasher need for a full run, can I put a $300.00 under the sink RO system JUST TO FEED the dishwashe and let the dishwasher raise the cold water to the right hot water, _____OR how much do whole house ROs cost to buy and have installed?

The way to go now is to talk with water quality specialists. Have a sample of the water analysed to determine exactly the mineral content that is making the hardness and then discuss the possible solutions with the specialists. Shops that sell water filters and treatment equipment will ne listed in a business directory and are available on line. costs can be determined by quotes.I used bore water for whole of house and installed a puretec system for the filtration ( salt softener) but after 2 years of operation I found that although the system was softening the water, the mineral content was still staining the glass in the shower and around the sink. the osmosis filter ,which is what i really needed would have cost twice as much initially but the saving in salt purchase would have off set that cost. It is important that you talk with shops , get the water tested and make a well informed decision as what you have now is costing money in energy , equipment.

Can't get rid of the soap...

One buy dishwasher cleaner or run bleach in it. But the reason why is because of hard water the hard water makes the soap stick to everything. And you might be using tomuch soap only use the main side not both and make sure you us jet dry. But the beat thing you can do buy water sofiner and then you can us even less soap and it will clean better and save the life of your dishwasher. Look at the film you can see, now think about the film you can't it's pritty sick

Maytag dishwasher

Go buy a product called Lemi-shine and run it thru your dishwasher empty to clean out any hard water and soap deposits. If you can try using only about 2 table spoons of detergent and stay clear of the premeasured tablets. Most of the dishwashers being sold are low water usage units and it is very easy to overwhelm them with soap. It also helps if the oils from the foods are still on the dishes. People tend to clean the dishes to much before loading them and then the enzymes in the detergent have nothing to attach to. Basically this leaves the soap nothing to attach to except the dishes and hence you get cloudy dishes with soap stuck all over them.

My brand new dishwasher leaves white film

The new washer is drying the dishes faster that the old one,Try setting it to no heat dry and see if that helps,if so you will need a water softener or filter for the water line to the washer.

Whirlpool gold dishwasher leaves film on dishes

are you in a hard water area such as florida ? do you have a water softener? if so take a can of frozen concentrate orange juice and put the frozen hunk in the bottom of dishwasher and run for one cycle. the citric acid will dissolve undisolved soap . this works much better. than vinegar which will only remain through the first cycle and then drain out as for the already grey glasses wash them in a solution of equal amounts red wine vinegar and water with just a touch of dish soap using a sponge.
